Just a bit of advice for you new MC owners...we have found that it generally is a good idea to do an occasional bit of trimming of the adults "backsides" if you want to prevent poop in the hair problems. MCs can get quite a bit of hair back there, and even if their poops are quite firm they may get so a piece can get a bit hung up when going. Having some poo dangling back there typically upsets them, so they rub their bottoms--making it totally hopeless to remove without scissors (plus leaving you with some carpet cleaning too). Doing just a slight bit of trimming every month or two can definitely help with this. (They are definitely not low maintenance pets!)
I would second the advice from Ncarver! My non-MC long haired fluffy tom has problems in that area. He is a very nervous cat and wont let anyone near his back end with a wipe, brush or hand. As a result he has had poo balls and we have had to pin him down to cut them off. Very distressing for all concerned so certianly a little trimming goes a long way and the earlier you start doing it the more the cat will get used to you doing it. Wish we had done so when ours was little!
hint taken... I will start gryfn as soon as he comes home!
Thanks for that advice:smile:
Don't cut drawers if you intend to show, that is part of their beauty flowing trousers.
Have to say even with six have never had a problem other than with a really upset tummy & then if it is dry I comb it out & use wipe to freshen up but if really bad into utility room sink & drawer wash is the order of the day, great fun & the joys of being a maine coon owner !
