I always feed my kittens to their full needs but in set given meals not ad lib & of course use what is your given choice....Quote:

Jackie, I am curious, how much food is in a pouch? a can is 5.5 oz (156g) I give Ginger one can 1/2 can twice a day and all of the dry she can eat usually during the night. As usual always worried she could be getting more.Quote:

Reading above back makes it look as if I starve them once they are past kitten hood but I don't I promise.....they do have a food maize where they can graze during the day but there is hardly anything put in it & normally there is some left so they can't be starving....
hey all, sorry might be highjacking this thread a bit but I guess it's going to be beneficial to Lincoln in the long run....
wondering if everyone has the same experience as me: Neevie when she was "little" - up to 18 months I think - ate like a tiger! she was ALWAYS hungry, however much I fed her - if I boiled chicken (for her) she was actually trying to climb my leg getting to the boiling pan - really, in a permanent state of starvation - I fed her up to 6 pouches a day, she didn't like dry kibble much at the time... and really had to make the last pouch of the night a double one if I wanted to have some peace in the night.
now, she doesn't finish her 2 pouches a day, she does like a bit of dry kibble but not too much... the only thing she really jumps on is the "webbox lick-e-lix" - supposedly chicken yoghurt.
She is not skinny so I am not worried, but I am wondering about that... is that everyone else's experience too, that they eat like they've been starved for about a year and a half and then it abruptly stops?
Curently Pumpkin at 14 weeks is going through 1 and 1/4 kilos of chicken mince, 1 x 5.5oz can fish and as much dry food as she wants and treats of roast chicken and titbits from my husbands dinner (each night) in a week. She seems to burn a lot of the food off through running and jumping all over the house. She weighed in at 2 kilos (4.4 pound) at 13 weeks.
Hi alekto.... I call that very natural.... although I said mine pull back a lot once they are adults perhaps I did word that a bit wrong, sorry, by 15 to 18 months they are eating a lot lot less than as a kitten but by the time they reach the 4 yr mark it seems to drop even more, I sometimes wonder how Shimba manages to tip over 10kg as his meal is quite miserly he lets his brother step in & eat the bits that he likes so he never eats his full share of a meal bless him.....!Quote:

Could I hijack this tread for a moment?
Pixie is with from Friday eve, she is now more or less used to the new place so she start acting as normal and changing eating. At first she barely ate anything. We want her on a mix of dry and wet as if we ever need to leave her in cattery I guess she will get only dry there. Anyway my question is same as in the topic, how much she should eat? She is today 13 weeks old. She have dry food out all time but she nibble on them from time to time. Not many are being eaten. But when you get a ouch out she is going mental. Same with f.e. prawns. I do not want to over feed her, but I don't know how much is ok, don't want to keep her hungry... It is kind of easy with dry as it says on packet, but on pouch it says that it should be one per day for a small cat, and she got one, then dry and she still could eat more.. I'm lost...
Children are the same!!! I guess its when they're growing they eat masses and then they stop. My seven year old is very much like a maine coon in terms of build and personality. I think that's why I chose the breed!!!!Quote:
