Rasputin's ears and weight

Hiya,

I've got a couple of possibly silly questions about my 13 week old male MC:

1) He has brown stuff in his ears, looks a bit like wax but I just want to check if it's something I should be concerned about? Have attached a photo and would really appreciate some advice.

2) He seems like he has quite a large frame but also seems quite thin to me, he weighed in at 1.57kg when I got him off the breeder on Friday but has been eating well (about 2/3 tin of bozita and some biscuits) every day. Do I need to be worried about his weight or is that pretty normal for the age?

He generally seems pretty happy and relaxed and will be going to the vet in about 3 weeks to get the FeLV vaccination (he's had the others already) so I will ask the vet to give him a once-over but just want to check have got nothing to be worried about!

Any advice appreciated!

Hallo & welcome to you both,looking at Rasputins ears it does look as if they are just waxy,wipe around them with moist cotton wool for a few days & see what happens,they can sometimes get ear mites but normally they scratch at the ears & it is a darker looking discharge.The vet will obviously check them for you when you go in for the vaccs.but I wouldn't think you need rush off at the moment.
Just looked at the weights of my babes that I got from my friend who breeds locally & at the same age their weight varied from 1.8kg to 2.2kg the other babe that I had from a breeder further away didn't have his weight in the certificate but he was very leggy & lean,still is,so again wouldn't worry at this moment in time,something else you can talk to the vet about if you are still worried but most probaly you will find now he is away from siblings he will start to increase in weight quite rapidly.Don't be too tempted to try & overfeed at this point or you could end up with the dreaded runny bum syndrome.
More photos of him please & updates as to what miscief he is getting into....!

How long before no 2 arrives,not many stay at one....? They just seem to grab you right round the heart as no doubt you will pick up reading the posts on here.

Yes, I believe the record for going for MC no 2 currently stands at a few minutes....

Its nice to go to the vets and register him and then he will get a good check over!

My Darcy has darker colored ear wax, BUT it could also mean ear infection. I would put in a call to the vet. If it's just ear wax they can clean it out very easily. <3

Yep, we lasted with one MC for three months. In that time, we looked at Norwegian Forest Cats, Ragdolls, and other long-haired breeds. In the end, we were hooked on MC's and drove six hours to get our white MC boy.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I gently cleaned his ears and it doesn't seem to have come back so far... But he's going to the vet in 2 weeks for FeLV vaccination anyway so will keep an eye on him and make sure they check him out fully :)

Just thought I'd update everyone - the vet checked his ears/wax today and said is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. I've been weighing him weekly and he was weighed at the vet's today which confirmed he's been steadily gaining weight :)

FWIW, MC Elvis is almost 2 years old and he's still very lean.

I can feel his backbone and ribs and somedays he looks as if he's starved, but he
gets all the RC MC 31 he wants and eats a couple of small cans of Fancy Feast a day.

Vet says he's fine. His bones are still growing faster than he can add any meat...

Presumably he'll fill out in the next year or so...
