Anxious – Minnie has her op tomorrow

Tomorrow morning we’re finally taking little Minnie to the vet to be spayed. I say finally because we decided to wait a bit as she is on the small side. She’s over 7 months now and only weighs a little over 3.5 kilos. But the vet said we shouldn’t wait much longer if we don’t want a screaming cat on our hands.

We had Tatja and Monty spayed and neutered simultaneously at 6.5 and 5.5 months respectively. But both were big and bouncy; Minnie looks like a wee kitty in comparison (which she’s not of course, she’s the size of a moggy her age).

So once again there are butterflies in my stomach. Feeling ever so guilty because she won’t get her bed-time shrimp tonight. And because she’ll be left at the vet’s … she’s definitely not one to be on her own and will probably be crying all the time, poor little tyke.:sad1:

Tomorrow I’ll prepare the bedroom, with a litter tray and a feeding dish and some of her playthings. After we’ve collected her I’ll lock myself (and my laptop) in with her so she can have some peace & quiet.

I wish it was tomorrow evening already...:sad2:

I'm sure it will be OK Antonia, it's just so hard that you can't tell them what's going on... sometimes it's worse for the owners (I mean, slaves!)

You're right... the worst thing is when you leave them in their cage at the vet's and you hear them meowing and see their little faces looking at you: "Hey! Where are you going? Don't leave me here!" :cry:

I'd better stop now ... I'm getting all emotional. I hope I can still get some work done today.

I always tell mums & dads to go home & have a strong cup of coffee,blow their noses,wipe their eyes & by the time they have done that the chances are the op will be nearly over,we do luv em while they are in our care.
I wouldn't deny her the treat of a shrimp tonight that will have passed through,its more her not having a great big meal,because our cut off for feeding is 9PM the night before when it has been time for any of mine to have their ops I put them to bed about 8.45PM with their normal dish of supper,they all eat their own up quite quickly & there is no extra food in the room so they are happy & in the morning I get whichever one into its basket as near to leaving for work as possible,pop that one into the car then run back & feed the others so
really that one appears to only be missing out on breakfast,I feel a bit sorry for mine then though because it means it arrives at the vets very early & has to stay in a pen a lot longer than the others.

but got up today she has infection took her vets they are worried as it could get into her bone so she has to go back friday ,, see james who did the op he might want to keep her in to have op that day
girls are 5mths they were going to be spayed but will have to wait until anna is ok

Antonia - I've just gone through this with Freyja (about 3 weeks ago) and she's fine now. The guys on the forum were all bang on when they said she'd be back to normal as soon as the anaesthetic had worn off - she was. She barely seemed to notice that she even had stitches! Don't know how much Minnie weighs but Freyja was 3.4kg the day of the op, which I think is probably a little on the small side for a 6 month old MC. I'm sure Minnie will be fine, and she'll have a great treat having your sole attention in the bedroom when she gets home. Be thinking of you tomorrow, it's horrible leaving them.

Like your Freyja, our Tatja also was right as rain after her op... racing up and down scratching posts the next day. Bur somehow Minnie looks so vulnerable because of her small size (3.5 kg at 7 months). But she's probably tough as old boots - she's never had any health probs, unlike her big cousin Tatja and sturdy-looking uncle Monty. :koolkat:

I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope everything turns out well for poor Anna.

We just came back from dropping little Minnie off at the vet's. To our relief she hardly whimpered during the journey. She seemed almost a bit subdued - that's not like her at all; she usually is a little livewire.
The vet who's doing the op is the family vet of Minnie's breeders, so she has known Minnie almost since birth. She said she'd phone around 1 this afternoon for an update.

About the time you get your update I will be leaving for work so will have to wait until late this evening to find out how things went & when you get her home.
Pansy was only just the 2kg when we spayed her,due to her flat chest we were a bit worried about giving her anesthetic but the boss reckoned it was worth the risk because as small & feeble as she was she kept coming into call,so at a year old I bit the bullet,I don't normally go in when it is one of mine on the operating table but for her didn't think it was fair to put the responsibility onto a workmate,I couldn't believe how well she took it all,she was one of the first round but she hadn't been done until last & she just sat there demanding attention & looking pretty put out at the loss of coat,as usual "parent"suffered more than pet...
Will fire 'puter up as soon as I get in x

Vet just called to say all went well and Minnie's already waking up.:satisfied:

We can go and collect her from 2 o'clock onward!
I've put the bedroom in order for her and shut the door. Not surprisingly Tatja & Monty are already clamoring to get in ... must have something to do with the goodies I took there.:rofl:

Still a bit groggy, but she's already given me lots of kisses and head-butts.:smile:

The only problem is, I've had to lock Monty out of the bedroom because he doesn't seem to understand this is not the right time to fool around with Minnie and chase her up and down the stairs.:hmm:

ahhh Poor Monty, not being able to play with Minnie. Tomorrow she'll feel a lot better though. Our house cat Pixel was spayed in the morning a couple of yrs ago and she tried to climb the cat tree the evening of the same day. Of course we didn't let her, but just to show you that Minnie will be just fine! She'll be terrorizing the house again with Monty in no time!

Great news. She'll think it's some sort of reward spending the afternoon locked away with you. Monty will get his kicks chasing her around soon enough, and she'll be back to her livewire self in no time.

And you were right... it's amazing to see how fast Minnie is recovering. Late yesterday night she helped Tatja catch a huge daddy-long-legs (is that what they're called?) and this morning she was chasing Monty around the kitchen! Right now she's asleep in her little round chair in the living room, bless her heart.:smile:
