My two little fluffies have gone off to the vets to have their lives changed today - trying to deal with those horrible feelings of anxiety this morning and counting the minutes till I can go and bring them home. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to look after them when they get home, in particular my little girl Flo. My vet has told me that they will both be wearing collars and that Flo will need to go back for two post op checks

You should get a list of dos & dont's when you collect the little darlings,they never read the post op sheets so can make life a bit hard for owners,main thing is to keep them warm but I don't think you will be putting them into outside kennels,keep their food light & in small amounts for tonight although a lot of them are not happy unless they have normal amount but also nothing to worry about if they ignore it completely,after an anaesthetic odd ones will sick it back up anyway,some come home looking bright but once they get back into the safety of their own four walls they curl up & sleep for the next 12 hours,sometimes this is the easiest because you don't have to worry about them flying around the house,after 24 to 48 hours you wouldn't normally know they have had anything done,the only thing that might upset Flo is the jolly old collar .
Of course it goes without saying lots of TLC but not too many "arrhs,what have we done", MC's are like dogs & they will milk it for all their worth.

Thank you for your wise words! The poor little mites ended up being at the vets from 7:30 this morning until 6:00 pm this evening because an emergency meant that Flo had to wait until this afternoon before having her op. They have come home with collars to wear if they fuss the wounds but not wearing them yet. So much for my expectations of bringing home sad floppy little kittens - not a bit of it. They are going nuts and my problem is calming them down, which is proving difficult if not impossible!
I'm glad everything went well and hope they recover quickly :)
I'm terrified of sending Teddy to be neutered. I have a massive fear of needles and surgery :(
So pleased they are home all safe & sound,also pleased that collars are only to use if required,except in extreme cases we hardly ever hand them out especially on routine ops for cats as they tend to upset them more.If they are already flying around I don't think Flo will be too bothered about her wound she will just worry you in case she does any harm,most likely the worst that will happen will be a swelling at the op site if she keeps it up but hopefully tomorrow she might settle a bit when the pain relief wears off & perhaps she can feel it pulling as she flys around & so quiten down a bit,on the other hand she just may not,the agonies & aftermath of neutering,oh joy ....x
Its a good thing you won't be in the operating room with him then & you will have to look away when you take him for routine boosters or they will end up having to pick you up off the floor....!Quote:

Well, they ate loads, obviously catching up on all the missed meals, slept for about 30 minutes then were up and running around until about 2:00 am this morning. They had little bandages on their legs which I left on because I thought that maybe fussing at those would keep them away from their wounds. I don't know if it was the anesthetic but it seemed like they were just glad to be home, all the toys came out of their box and every inch of everywhere explored. Thank you to everyone for good advice and it certainly wasn't what I was expecting.This morning they have just behaved as normal so far,they have a follow up visit tomorrow but can't really see anything on Noah and you would have to get a magnifying glass out to see Flo's wound, so so fingers crossed its all ok.
That would have been a good idea, I was expecting them to come home all droopy and sleepy and a bit sorry for themselves, so it was more than a bit of a shock when the two dynamos shot out of their travelling case and started leaping about! However if there is a next time .....I'm going to set up a confined quiet space with absolutely nothing in it - no windows,curtains,bookcases,chairs,tables or people to climb up and launch off!Quote:
