Hey there guys, me and my fiance just adopted a 3 yr old cat today from Pet Smart, It looks to me like a Russian Blue/Maine Coon mix and I thought I would join to see what you veterans think :):smile:

Hi there, firstly congratulations you have got yourself an absolute beauty !! I would say that the photo on the right looks more MC ish than than the other but either way he/she is a real cutie. Welcome to the forum by the way !!

Voice is also a key characteristic of MCs.
That's a lovely kitty :) unfortunately I'm clueless about the specifics so can't help you there!
He is such a big cat, and he is very vocal we have found. Instantly just made himself at home playing and talking and cuddling! He rubs himself up against us all the time and he talks when he sees us. He is very long and quite tall.Quote:

Just as I submitted this post another picture had appeared,he has got very long & thick boned legs but still not sure about his parentage but have to say you have all been very lucky to find each other , he looks so confident you would never guess that he has only just arrived into your household which points to perhaps MC in there somewhere,that is their nature,me thinks you are all going to have a lot of fun.
The adoption people wanted to claim him as part himalayan but I owned a pure bred and he looks nothing like our himalayan. I will try to get some better pictures of him, he is more settled in today. His front on view he really gives me hopes that he is part MC...he really is quite a gorgeous cat! Either way we are proud to have him. Such a sweetie! My fiance named him Lenin, he has another Russian Blue named Stalin, so he thought it would be fitting to keep him in the Russian Dictator family lol.Quote:

The name can carry bad aura, and your kittie wants to have much happier life than he had before he met you. Of course, it's your cat and can name him all you want.
I still feel sorry for poor cat. If he only understood whose name he got he would be screaming.
Well, it was more so to do with the fact he is quite Powerful looking, his brother is Stalin and they are Russian blues, it is more about being clever and humorous...not about disgracing him with the name of a Dictator...but qualities he holds. I don't believe naming him Lenin will in any way effect the type of life he has with us....sorry you feel that way.Quote:

I did have a kitten that the rescue group talked me into naming him Chaplin instead of the madman pictured above. {hint}

There is a speculation that pets over time start resembling their owners. If Stalin, Hitler or Lenin had cats, that's how their pets would look like.
Imagining pictures of these dictators with cats on their laps made me laugh even more.

He's a lovely looking cat and love the Russian name theme; my MC is called Rasputin... :D

He looks somewhat like Montgomery, our Maine Coon/Russian Blue mix. Kind of unique, they are in that each will have some more distinct features of either breed. Our vet is quite familiar with the MC breed and was positive Montgomery was Maine Coon and Russian Blue. We'd have never known had it not been for her expertise in the feline world. The photo gives two good views, the reflection showing the distinctive box face.

Whatever his name he is one gorgeous cat and I wish you many happy years together.
Beautiful cat indeed... and love the thought of Russian blue crossed coon... mind would hope the coon was the mummy... and not the other way around lol
I kind of agree with Jackie a Norwegian Forest, but then the more I look the more I see the Characteristics of a Somali and Turkish and Siberian... but either way stunning cat!!:)
Just came across this . . . your cat could be a "twin" to our Blue Bear, also a rescue we got from PetSmart about 5 years ago. He's not an MC (his lil bro, Dakota is), but he is, by far, one of the smartest, most loving cats we've ever had. He never ceases to amaze us. I'd love to see updated pics (and tell me what you think of my "twin" theory)!:smile:
