Building Sandcastles in the Litter Box

What's up with that? My 6 month MC old loves digging in his box. It seems like he spends 5-10 minutes in there pushing the sand all around. I hear all this banging and there he is with the entire box shaking while he digs in the box. He'll come out when he sees me. Thankfully the box has a lid or I'd find litter all over the place. I'll lift the lid to see if there's something I need to dispose of, but find that he's pushed all the litter to one side and made a mound. Is this his pitcher's mound, his version of Mt. Everest, is he playing "king of the world", does he want to go skiing?I don't speak cat, so I guess I'll never know. :LOL:

Snap - my 10 month old is just the same. My moggie by comparision shows only perfunctory interest in using the litter tray and is business like about it. MC on the other loves to spend ages in there - especially just after the litter is changed. We just accept it. Perhaps they grow out of this interest as they become older.

Don't you believe it,age makes no difference they just seem to hop in & dig with even more vigour,I have two that will compete with making the mountain range,sometimes they make it worth while by depositing something & othertimes they just hop out looking very pleased with their building results,the next cat in has to knock it all down to be able to use the tray properly.....

I have one that has just started doing that .... the other has no idea that the litter is supposed to cover what he does and just scrapes round the edge of the actual tray for a good 5 minutes getting nowhere... then the other goes in a sorts it out for him

Yes the Himalaya's in our litter tray too! What I want to know is why they even 'dig' the sides and the door to the tray! Great fun to watch though :)

Next year I intend to build a largish sandpit for the boys - looking at using the old fenceposts from under the old shed to make a frame and then fill over a porous membrane to about 30cm with kiddy sandpit sand. I wonder if they'll like to play in it ? :)

My 2 y.o. sweeties have 2 special games with their toilet.
One kittie goes inside and builds castles there, while another is listening to the cratching , running around
the enclosed litterbox, banging on the areas with greatest noise and then waiting for her sister to open the door so she can pounce on her.
Or another scenario is when one cat is banging on the door from outside and preventing the exit of another one from the box.

I don't know about building Himalayas but I was welcomed by three enormous deposits when I got up this morning! Good old Kenny.
