Maine coons and water
Now I know that as a breed they adore the stuff, but how do I stop our little lad from emptying his water bowl everywhere whenever I put it down for him?
We have an electric fountain type water bowl but Lando has seemed to go off it and I'm not convinced he's drinking as much as he should be. However, when I put a normal water bowl down for him both paws are straight in and the water is dispersed all over the kitchen floor within about an hour as he flicks it all out.
Everytime I get a drink of water he is very vocal about wanting it, and drinks like hell from a glass of water if it's offered. I'm not sure if he's thirsty or if it's a novelty to drink from a glass.
I'm not a fan of wet feet in the morning, or wet cat feet on my face when I'm in bed, so any suggestions?

No idea I'm afraid - some of mine happily drink from a fountain and a bowl and some would much rather tip the water out as fast as they can.
Ours will also drink out of the bath, the sink and the toilet!

Thanks anyway, I'm sure he's drinking fine from the fountain, just worried with him being on a dry diet. I was thinking it might be a boredom thing because we both work all day and he's a house cat, but he's not short of stimulus

Hi Jimbo, there was a thread on here a while ago on this very subject and someone suggested putting a prawn in his water dish to encourage him to drink. But I suppose with your lad he'd just splash about even more! Some MC's are just messy drinkers.... He may grow out of it though, mine don't do it nearly as often as they used to.

He is only 7 1/2 months so hopefully!

Hmmmm, well Harry is 1 year 4 months and still almost every day we have to mop of water, wish I knew the answer Jimbo but if you do work it out pleaaaase let me know !

no idea either..they love to play with water...we just have to accept it ..
i think we are lucky as mc slaves that our babies do actually like to play with water as they will more naturally lick their paws and the water while playing..as said before..i regularly leave the bath tap dribbling cold water so they can drink and play happily with minimal mess:satisfied:

I bought bigger slainless steel bowls with rubber bottoms so they dont move and I only half fill them. I do still get some splash out if they really go berserk but otherwise they can put their feet in and drink and no water comes out on the floor.
I also keep the water bowls in the laundry and the bathroom so any spills can be easily mopped up or go down the drain
I also have a small bowl in the shower as they like the shower water for some reason and I fill it up after each shower just before i turn off the water - they can spill that to their hearts content
