Litter tray "sinking" and mucky paws

My boys are using an Omega Paw (Large) with chick crumb as litter and while I fill the box generously I am not sure it's too much ? It's filled to roughly the point where all the litter fits into the grilled-off part.

I think what's happening is that the boys are "sinking" into the chick crumb a bit and then when they do their business, which is often soft (not runny), they step in it while trying to scrape over - a bit like being on the beach in wet sand for us. :smile:

Should I simply put less litter in the box or will they adapt ?

At the moment we get poo-ey paws and sometimes chick crumb covered poo outside the box as it stick to them :( Poor dears... only Leo doesn't mind having his paws washed, the other two are quite annoyed.

I should note again that the poo is soft, not runny - I think they are getting used to different soft foods like Bozita and while they eat plenty of dry they are also drinking plenty too.

I would definately limit the amount of litter you put in so that they don't end up sinking - I normally put it in about 2cm deep so they can have a good scratch about but not bury a body in there.

As for the soft poo, kittens can be quite prone to that. As long as it isn't lots of times during one day and it doesn't become runny then it probably is just dietary.

Makes sense and apart from Bert not putting any weight on in the last week their rear ends are settled now...

Jiminy was terrible for stepping on his poop when first got him, he just turned around to cover it and stood straight on it every time, we had to babywipe his paws all the time but after a few weeks he got the idea! Now he keeps peeing on his bum fluff, think I might have to give it a trim :suprised:

Krum isn't too bad now with his paws, but the female coony Arwen as many a time wiped her bum the entire length of the living room carpet!!!

If we don't change the trays twice a day the British Blue just pees on the carpet.
