when can i start clipping my kittens claws....legs being shredded..lol
You can start now :-)
Becarefull only the tips from the claws ;)
I know the problem with the shredded legs...:-)
i am used to clipping my old ladies claws and do tend to under clip so hopefully should manage not to have a blood bath :)
I started tipping the ends of the kittens claws AS SOON AS THEY ARRIVE - they are like rotten little pins. Also they get used to you doing it and I dont have any problems doing any of them now. I think I did one foot at a time with Zack as he was originally a bit sqirmy but soon got the hang of it
Sooner the better, only problem with Coonies is the toe fur tends to get in the way.
Those with polydactyl kitties must have extra fun.
I've never clipped any of mines claws. Previous moggys have always been out a lot. Buddy goes out in the yard where he is on concrete and has a tree to clamber about on. He also kills the course doormats several times a day and has now totally shredded his scratching post.
I take it your little ones are leg climbing! I would say discourage this as much as possible. My Fudge never grew out of this and even at 16 and at his heaviest 14lbs he still did it, loved nothing better than climbing my leg, rest on waist then up to his favourite place - wrapped round my neck.
Oh and is your camera broken? My subtle way of saying need more pics. ...... please xx
thanks to you all ... i managed to front paws on the pair of them one night and back the next ... not used to so much hair hampering operations so took longer than all four of my dsh!
Yeah my polydactyl girl has what we call her "hidden daggers". She has regular dewclaws like any cat but she also has "thumbs" which sit over the dewclaws and hide them. This means I have to get her thumb out of the way then hunt through all that long fuzz to find the dewclaws for trimming!
I always keep my cats' nails trimmed nice and short because they like to knead me.
