It's that time Hanks outgrown his wicker basket carrier so I'm looking for an alternative. Just curious what dimensions are ideal for a fully grown maine coon.
I'm looking at the smallest dog carrier here Soft Dog Crates travelling at zooplus: Hunter Transport Box OutdoorIts foldaway and looks comfy and easy to pop him in and out of.
We have an older styled one but it is the small dog & 10kg MC travels fine in it,in fact very often I have two in there plus daughter brings both hers in one the same,10kg + 7kg,so plenty of room for one to be able to sprawl.Strange thing is Shimba will not travel in it on his own,seems to feel insecure so he travels better in a smaller wire cage unless he can be in soft crate with bruv,not a good idea on show day though have arrived with one of them having puked up over the other.
Stores away very easily too,highly recommend them....
Buddy has a small dog carrier. Just measured it and its roughly 100cm x 50cm x 50cm. He can lay down in it and move about. Its not a total fold away one, its in three parts, bottom (doubles as cat bed in lounge), top (doubles as upstairs cat bed) and door (hides under the stairs). I like that he uses it as a bed as is not so strange when I do have to try and cage him as its got his scent all over it.
Actually just had another look at it and put it next to standard kitty carrier and its about twice the size :O; maybe you don't need one quite this big.
We've just returned from the US where we visited a great little pet accessories shop called salty paws. They had the perfect pet carrier for Mufasa and I was so tempted to buy it (stupid small luggage allowance). They did tell me that they will ship to the UK but I am looking for one over here first:

This would be so useful as I find him really heavy to lift in his plastic carrier, last time the handle came off and he hurtled towards the floor. In the following panic, the 'petting hatch' at the top of the carrier popped open and he tried to squeeze through it resulting in him getting stuck with his head and arm sticking out in a Michael Jackson\Freddie Mercury type pose! I have resolved to get something better now!! :LOL:

I have a plastic coated wire basket for my coonies (sorry dont trust zips my daughters cat (Oriental) once managed to break out), I also bought one of the folding plastic square pull along carriers(you see them at flower shows),I can then put all my show stuff in the basket and put the cat basket on top then just wheel it behind me.
. . . . and remarkably cheaper! Thank you so much for that Peter, I shall keep an eye on this page in case it's back in stock and continue on the quest for the Mufasa trolley :)Quote:
