Torn Nail with slight bleeding

Hello MC Fans,

During a long cuddle session on the sofa this afternoon I noticed that one of Roxy's claws has split all along the lenght of it vertically and is bleeding slightly from the quick:sad2:. I keep her claws trimmed religiously, and all the other ones are fine. She has been using her post a lot recently and I wonder if it just split from the acitivty. What should I do? She is obviously not keen on me examining it closely, probably because there is discomfort, but she seems normal otherwise. Should I take her to the vet?

Split nails down to the quick are really sore,would she let you do the old saline bathing,teaspoon of salt into pint of water have it just at a comfortable temperature to put her foot in.We always suggest something like a margarine tub,if she would let you do that for tonight & perhaps a couple of times tomorrow you might find she would be ok,I am lucky that mine will let me do that but obviously they are not all so obliging,on Monday if it looks as if it is drying up,shes not bothered,eating ok then don't worry but if any doubt yep off to the vets for Roxy. She could quite easily have got a claw into her post & just pulled it wrong,Shimba done something to one of his back claws once & we hadn't noticed,his whole quick was bare,no nail at all,did have to take him into work as by the time we noticed although the saline bathing eased it overnight it had already got infection in it,Merlyn was luckier bathing & his licking done the trick.....

Thank you, that's sound advice, I will try and bathe the paw in saline and see how it develops. The nail was still there, so at least that's good news.
