I've tried flat plates, flared bowls, straight-sided bowls, and using a plastic tray, to no avail; my cat insists on dragging his food directly onto the kitchen floor and eating it there. He also chews his dry food over the floor, but that's easy to sweep up so I can deal with that. Any suggestions? Any ideas why on earth he needs to eat from the floor? It can't possibly make it taste better. :mopangry:
My Ginger is doing the same thing, I assumed it had to do with the E collar as she was just spayed recently. Although I have two Beagles that knock their food onto the floor to eat it also. I have switched Ginger from the "minced" to the "chunks and gravy" style food. It seems to be easier for her to eat, with her little baby teeth. When she gets older though I will be switching her to all dry kibble, I don't think she is going to like that too much, cause she loves her canned food! Maybe a mat under her dish would help keep the food off of the floor? Good luck!
Neevie does the same too - I assumed it had to do with the fact she was raised with wolves.... she definitely is not at her most ladylike self when she eats, that's for sure.
we have a big breakfast tray for her food, to avoid "first splash" - we used to also have plastic place mats around but she would drag the food outside of the area! it's like it would be impolite to leave food in the bowl... food HAS to be eaten on the floor!
NOTE: I once gave her one of our plates to finish up - flat plate, with boiled chicken.... she didn't drag food out of there. So I wonder if it has to do with the bowls' edges tickling their whiskers or something?
on the other hand, if I try to feed her by hand, treats or whatever, it has to touch the floor before it gets eaten. And I swear I do not tickle her whiskers on purpose when I do that. Apparently it's just the rule.
