Are all Coonies early risers?

Winston has always woken early but over the last 2/3 weeks the trend has been now for him to demand play sessions at 5.10 a.m.
My concern is that as we live in an apartment, that his very loud early morning demands can be heard!

I now have to get up at 5.10 am so my husband can get some more sleep before getting up for work at 7am leaving me shattered by 11 am.
Meanwhile by 7.30 Winston has stopped his demands and settled down.

Is this all part of the package? A russian friend of mine has a Persian Cat and said that her kitty will not stir until they get up in the morning.

I'm often woken quite early with Simba jumping around on the bed, his nick name is Ping Pong as he is just like a ping pong ball in the morning on the bed. If we don't get up he tries my kids' rooms or goes downstairs, but as soon as I get out the bathroom in the morning he is sitting there waiting for me. The dogs are quiet in the morning until we stir so tend to ignore his playfulness until we get up even though he tries to get them up by pouncing on them and then hiding:LOL:

Louie is fine its Holly (dog) we have a problem with she goes off at 6am everyday :pissed: which is ok when OH is on days but not when he's on backshift :grr: Louie rushes off down with the dogs for some food then they all go back to sleep leaving me to clear up after them :LOL:

:rofl: we don't have that problem. Gryfn is still sleeping in till at least 7... but I'm sure that will change as dh goes back to work....

Sarah was terrible when I got her and used to wake me up putting her paws around my face and licking me at about 5.00am. After some firm discussions and time she now only does it on weekdays and when the alarm has gone off. Mind you today the alarm didnt go off and she waited til about 7.00am and did it ( just in case I should have been up)

I dont know how they differentiate weekdays from weekends but she does!!!

Oh how I long for him just to sleep for an extra 90 minutes :LOL:

The joys of having them in their own room....
Only have problems when they have been allowed to stay out because of being poorly or when we travel to shows,then we are woken several times but away in their own domain they are very good.Two mornings a week hubby gets them up at 6.30am & they are crying to come out,the other mornings I let them out at about 8am & they are fine,weekends they will lay in as long as you wish,no problems,they do have to have lots of cuddles & playtime then though cos when you are that good you deserve it.....

I don;t mind as I am an early riser anyway, just not that early, it wouldn't be so bad but the persian sleeps on me all night, and when the MC wakes up she comes on the bed, the other one gets the hump about that then they end up fighting on my side of teh bed

unfortunately, once I am awake, I cannot sleep again :LOL:

Our four also tend to get up around 5am (depends a bit on sunrise). However they have gotten pretty good about letting us sleep. Some of them will visit us, but none really do too much to wake us up (beyond walking on bed or us briefly). The kittens early on will generally keep sleeping, but then they get to be the worst for a while, until they get a bit older. If we try to sleep past 7:30-8am now the 9mos old will walk around the bedroom crying, but I expect that will improve.

As for getting up at 5:10 to play...I have to say that are just reinforcing that behavior and you are going to be doomed. We have found that they are very quick to begin to expect to always do something they enjoy once you repeat it even just a couple of times. My wife started playing with the 9mos old with a teaser once when he went and looked up at where they are stored and cried out, and he now goes and sits and cries beneath them half a dozen times a day! It seemed so cute at first, but now....

Yes I've noticed they learn quickly... gryfn already knows where the teasers are....

I guess normally it would not bother me as I was used to my parents outdoor cat waking us up early to be fed, but once that was done she went on her merry way.
What I'm a bit concerned with, is that I live in an apartment, and am worrying that Winston's early morning antics will be heard by neighbours. He had me up at 4.50 am today so I joined him in the dining room and went on the PC. He then fell asleep on the cat tree and I sneaked back to bed around 6. As soon as I pulled the duvet over my head, his lordship arrived at the door telling me "what did I think I was doing". I'm sure thats what he said :LOL:

Should I have set more boundries and not allowed him to sleep in the bedroom to begin with?
As I write this he is all curled up on th rug and I'm bleary eyed whilst typing this!

We let the cats sleep on our bed, but Gryfn didn't stay on our bed last night. I get the feeling that Charlie Brown has informed him he's not allowed to...
Charlie Brown is a bit of a bully. I'll be glad when he's snipped! But Charlie Brown has tried waking us early and we've just put our hand on him, given him a scratch and told him it's too early and go back to sleep and he's actually listened.

All of mine sleep on the bed with me

If Sarah woke me early I said no and gently pushed her away - If it was after my alarm or a reasonable hour then I put my arm around her and gave her a cuddle.

It did take a week or two for her to get the hang of it but she did - the occasional slip up but not much.

The weekend thing she worked out by herself.

A good alarm clock if all else fails.

Oh dear Dee, I think if I were you I would put my foot down. I'm sure if you just ignored him a few mornings when it was too early he would get the hint. The only other way that may solve the problem is get another kitten to keep him entertained while you are sleeping of course this might also double the trouble:LOL:

I love all my animals but say that they are the same as babies,give into them once & they never let you forget it so Irish Kitty I would say yes lay down your boundries they & you know where you stand esp.this breed of cats that seem to learn very quickly,we always say to new pet owners when they bring their babies in for 1st vacc love them yes but do not let them get away with anything you don't like they are never too young to learn.

I am pleased my cats haven't mastered reading these postingsyet or they might ask to pack their bags & head for a home where a better bed is on offer !

Darcy is up all night long. LOL every once in a while I'll be woken up by her sprawling across me for a nap :satisfied:

Good thread, I love Harry to bits but have to agree with jckkerrison, give an inch and they'll take 10 miles ! so Harry has always slept downstairs, we all close our bedroom doors at night, that isn't to say that if your not carefull he will sneak in if someone (usually me) gets up for the loo and darts under the bed until I return, get settled and a few minutes later appears on the bed doing the usually coonie things !

We allow both of ours full run of the house. At first, they used to jump all over the bed throughout the night but now they have settled down (6 months old).

Typical night is for me to go to bed about 10pm. Loki will follow me up and play "duvet game", where she chases my hand / foot around under the duvet. Storvenn arrives at some point in the night, I dont know when as Im normally asleep then.
Occassionally, at about 5 - 6am I get a paw in the face from Storvenn whilst he sits on my chest. He is not a light weight kitten either.. :)
If I dont want to be bothered I gently blow in his face. Over time this has resulted in both Loki and Storvenn just laying on the bed asleep with us throughout the night. Its usual for Storvenn to wake me up around 6 - 7am, which is when I normally wake up anyway.

Cant wait until he is a full grown adult male sat on me..... *cough*

Sorry Harry but I am pleased to see you are put under restrictions {that are open to being broken....}the same as my lot,it doesn't make me feel quite such a meanie.When one of them is poorly though & is allowed to come to bed it always makes them feel sooo special that I am sure it helps with recovery !
I have to say though that waking up with 10kg of coonie laying on top of you is not much fun,in the past I have thought that I have got breathing difficulties until I realised the "sickie" was laying right across my front & also have thought that I had lost the use of my legs,same problem & they had gone dead. Weird thing is they never do it to hubby.

Beau Kitty will start trying to wake me up when the alarm clock goes off, or when he wants us to open the blinds so he can access his favorite sunbeam.
