Skin problem

Hello can someone help me please. I have just introduced a kitten to my older cat, after the initial rejection of the kitten, as expected, hissing and growling, he has really taken to her and they get on great. However I have noticed every time they cuddle up together and he starts licking her all over the face and head, she breaks out in a rash and a nasty looking hot spot that looked bloody and a bit pusy also appeared. I took her to the vet and was prescribed Fusiderm. All cleared up fine but I try my best to stop him licking her and as soon as he does, it breaks out again into another rash and I start again with the Fusiderm.

I have tried using Bitter Apple to deter him, but it doesn't.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening with cats licking one another? Any suggestions as to what I can do to prevent it?

Thanks.

Hello would just like to give an update, I have discovered it was the cat food I was feeding my kitten that caused this problem!!! :pissed: The problem got worse and one day I found 3 large scabs on her head, of course I was worried sick so another trip to the vet. He couldnt understand it at all and again prescribed Fusiderm.

I just couldn't figure it out and then thought maybe, just maybe she was allergic to the cat food I was feeding. I have since changed her to James Wellbeloved, that was a month ago now and no more scabs and she appears to be thriving.

Just thought I would post for anyone else who may encounter the same experience I have had.

Glad to hear you found out what it was ... better than having to use meds on the kitty over and over again.
And thanks for sharing this useful tip.
