    While consumer law is a "hobby" of mine I am not very good for time at the moment. I am happy to have a peruse, but can't say when.

    My advice would be to pass it by either the CAB (if you have one nearby) or what's left of your local Trading Standards office - their national helpdline, Consumer Advice, is truly truly appalling and makes NHS Direct look like sainted experts. It's the price of a phone call but may get your more stressed than you started - everything is scripted, the call centre staff are ignorant and buck passing. Sigh.
