Two Things

First of the two; Ran-Gan (MC) has gained more weight, I'm glad to say. Weighed in at 10 lbs 12oz (4.8 kg) today at the vet. Not glad to say he has a urinary problem. Vet said 'crystals' in the urine, related to diet from what he says. Got some meds for that. OK. What to feed him now is the question? We have been feeding him a dry cat food supplemented with wet food from time to time. Dispite what was said on this forum he doesn't like eggs.

Second of the two: Psycho Cat came back again today. He was back a day or two ago then disappeared once again. He's not looking good. If I can't get hold of him and get him to the vet he's probably done for. He was more ammenable, let me pet him and we fed him again. He's lost weight and leg is badly swollen, think it's broken or dislocated. His belly seems to be distented also so there may be internal injuries.

When I do get him to the Vet they may say the best to do is 'put him down'.

Ran-Gan poor baby! I hope he gets better soon. Did the vet recommend a cat food for Ran-Gan? I think there are a few that are specifically for FLUTD. Poor psycho kitty, it is a cruel world out there, especially if you are a stray. I hope he gets better too.

try taking away the dry food for a while - wet food only - he needs to stay hydrated.

and also make sure that his litter is always skweeky clean - I know, it sounds obvious and no offense intended, but I'm a bad mum I tend to leave the litter changing to "tomorrow" and sometimes the litter goes a week without being changed - if you're anything like me, just while Ran-Gan recovers, I would preconize changing it every day.......

Also, my Neevie likes some meats like cooked chicken or raw salmon - she doesn't like trout or any other kind of fish -that I have noticed- and she doesn't seem to like duck or beef either, only chicken and salmon - what I'm trying to say is may be try finding out what Ran-Gan likes - not out of wet or dry cat food but out of your fridge... because that website says a meat based diet is good for what he has. I give it as a treat because honestly I have a day job....

Here comes the golden oldie of the forum.....again in lots of other threads on here have always made my feelings clear about dry feeding furries,I worked at a vets for 40 odd years & never had cats with so many urinary problems until dry foods came on the market & that has helped put an awful lot of extra money into the vets budget...... My boss is one of the old school who along with me believes in wet food feeding & a cat with any urinary problems he always says to completely cut out dry food for a while,he has always said to people who want to have some dry food in the cats diet to make sure that it has no more than 0.07 magnesium in it {over here you are looking at RC,Hills & one of the lowest Sanabelle}as he believes that is what helps cause crystals in cats,nothing to prove that but....... Did they actually find crystals if so I am surprised they haven't given you a bit more advice on what to feed to help Ran-Gan over the interim period as they can cause nasty problems or did they test his urine that shows a problem & are assuming it could be crystals..... what type of medication is he on.....? For a few days I would keep him to just wet food to get more fluid into his system & help clear through......

Poor Phsyco Cat does sound as if he is in a lot of trouble & needs help but don't get yourself trounced by him,try your local shelters to see if any of them have a cat catching cage that are easy to use with no risk to anyone.

I just looked at Ginger's Pure Vita (Nutri Source), no grain cat food and it has 0.08 magnesium, should I be concerned? I feed this as a supplement to her canned kitten food? I have always heard that dry food caused urinary issues in cats. I never realized that they get most of their liquid intake from eating,(rodents, birds, etc) so they are not big water drinkers. Once again some Google research. I think the reason people feed dry food is convenience, no muss no fuss. Here is Ginger's current food, I may switch to RC soon.

No donnad don't go into panic mode that amount is nothing & you aren't feeding all dried either are you... if you look at some of the stores own brands etc you will very often see it at 1. something ....... it is not a proven fact anyway just commonsense from an older vet based on what we have seen over the later years,he always does a drawing to explain to clients the moisture in a can of wet food against dry food & how much a cat would have to drink to get it to an equal amount of fluid intake,surprises most clients ....x

it's very strange how the dry food adverts "denounce" wet food for having too much moisture.... it's what makes it good!

Aw poor Ran-Gan I do hope he gets better soon, big hugs it must be a worrying time for you x

Not good news about the other cat, i hope you can find a resolution soon, for his sake as well as yours my thoughts are with you.

Oh I cant tell you anything about feeding but you sure have some wise heads on here that are giving very good advise and I am reading avidly for sure and taking it all in to x
