Donna I touch wood for luck to ! And I have heard of the 'no new shoes on the table' As jckkerrison says the old Magpie rhyme goes ........

one for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, four for a boy, five for silver, six for gold, seven for a secret never to be told !

So if you see a single magpie and you dont want sorrow you have to address him. I think there are a few ways like jckkerrison says as well as saying Good morning Mr Magpie how are you today ? I am really sad because I get so excited when I see two of them together !!! lol
