never saw A Few Good Men - I did like Dances with Wolves. My favorite film of all times is Amelie, with Audrey Tautou. It's a French film but it's been translated in English too.
Dances with Wolves was a really good movie. We ride our HD around them hills and it is so much fun! I do like a musical now and then, Funny Lady is so good and Omar Sharrif was such a hottie ;). I am now addicted to "Call the Midwife" I can not wait to watch season Two! I think I can stream it on my laptop. ahhh the life of leisure!
My favorite oldie but goodie - Dr Zhivago. Chick flicks - When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, Something's Got to Give. (Love Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton). Oh, cant forget The Pursuit of Happyness with Will Smith. Anything with Denzel Washington. Schindler's List!!! Another all time favorite, Life is Beautiful.
Alekto I have never seen Amelie, well not that I know of, but something in the back of my mind says I recognise the name ! I have to admit I never watch films that have subtitles and I know there are a lot of french ones out there that have english subtitles. You are so lucky to be bi lingual, I just was hopeless with languages at school ! lol
"Unforgiven", with Clint Eastwood. Not only because its action but it has a powerful moral message. "Its a terrible thing when you kill a man. You take everything he is and ever will be."
Then;
"The Day The Earth Stood Still" (the original with Micheal Renee)
"Chronicles Of Riddick" (guy flick)
Chris it is a British PBS show awesome, I think the brits have some of the best tv out there today! absolutely love it!
ps and nothing beats riding the black hills of South Dakota on a HD. We ride there from Minnesota and it is the best! I can nit wait until we are retired and can follow the sun~
Fave film interview with a vampire or wizard of oz. I love the call the midwife series too, have you read the books?
aww I have been looking for an English Dubbed version of Amelie for you Chris but couldn't find one... - I was certain it existed, because it's been a little hit in the UK as well... but no...
I know what you mean, it takes away a bit of the enjoyment when you have to follow the written script as well as the action!
Kim, I'm with you there, anything with Will Smith (except I am Legend - didn't like this one - too dark) and Denzel!
To that I add my favorite actor is Tom Hardy - though I like very few of the films he plays in, again, too dark in general - I like his acting and... of course he doesn't look bad at all ;-))
oh Whymier, Neevie likes Clint Eastwood too - her favorite quotes are "go ahead - make my day" and "do you feel lucky? well do you, punk?" she regrets that she cannot say it with her voice, but she makes up by saying it with her eyes - she says it very well.
I love Riddick too!
Life is Beautiful has subtitles. It is in Italian but is easy "reading" - a wonderful story with great acting. By the end, I didn't really have to read the subtitles anymore, I was pretty sure I could speak Italian. It is really a movie worth watching. Even my husband who will not watch a movie with sub-titles got caught up in it.
Yes I grew up watching the wizard of OZ and I and still amazed when it changed from black and white to color! Young Frankenstein was a hilarious movie, I still watch that one from time to time.
I love the grey horse in Unforgiven, we had a horse like that !! lol I agree about the moral message in there to ! Films have so many layers to them and I always watch the directors cut, it gives such an insight to a film.
Sorry the other two I havent seen so I will take your word for it that they are good films ! lol
Here is the review from Amazon. When I get home I think I will watch it again... It's been 5 or 6 years. Guido reminds me of my funny, optimistic father and the love he has for me, my sister and two brothers and all he did to support us and keep us happy during our childhood. Perhaps that is why the movie is so special to me.

Italy's rubber-faced funnyman Roberto Benigni accomplishes the impossible in his World War II comedy Life Is Beautiful: he shapes a simultaneously hilarious and haunting comedy out of the tragedy of the Holocaust. An international sensation and the most successful foreign language film in U.S. history, the picture also earned director-cowriter-star Benigni Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Actor. He plays the Jewish country boy Guido, a madcap romantic in Mussolini's Italy who wins the heart of his sweetheart (Benigni's real-life sweetie, Nicoletta Braschi) and raises a darling son (the adorable Giorgio Cantarini) in the shadow of fascism. When the Nazis ship the men off to a concentration camp in the waning days of the war, Guido is determined to shelter his son from the evils around them and convinces him they're in an elaborate contest to win (of all things) a tank. Guido tirelessly maintains the ruse with comic ingenuity, even as the horrors escalate and the camp's population continues to dwindle--all the more impetus to keep his son safe, secure, and, most of all, hidden. Benigni walks a fine line mining comedy from tragedy and his efforts are pure fantasy--he accomplishes feats no man could realistically pull off--both of which have drawn fire from a few critics. Yet for all its wacky humor and inventive gags, Life Is Beautiful is a moving and poignant tale of one father's sacrifice to save not just his young son's life but his innocence in the face of one of the most evil acts ever perpetrated by the human race. --Sean Axmaker

oh... I htink that would probably be heartbreaking... I don't think I can watch it... I never saw Titanic you know! anything a bit sad, or scary, has me unable to sleep for ages, thinking about those poor people... especially stories about sad real life events are a bit too much for me...
I know exactly what you mean Alekto but despite the subject matter, this movie is up lifting. Still, I do have to be in the right frame of mind to watch this type of movie. Most nights I would rather watch a comedy or a mystery action type movie than a movie that stays on the mind. Can't wait to get home, pop some popcorn, pour a glass of wine, snuggle up with the kitties and husband and have a movie night.
Oh this sounds like a weepie KimAz, but certainly something that looks like it is worth watching, will have to keep an eye out. I just cant imagine what it would have been like to be in a concentration camp, even the thought scares me into next week. But to derive humour from that situation must be very clever.
