I'm in France now, at my Mum's place, for 2 weeks - and left Neevie to be spoilt by HO
So last night, going to bed, I heard some pathetic meowing outside, at 11:30PM!
I was really concerned, but couldn't see anything so just decided to go to bed - every time I went to bed the meowing started again and then stopped when I got out - finally I just decided to wear some earplugs, and to not be so worried.... (yes it was a decision)
this morning, out in my mum's garden the meowing resumes - I follow it and what do I find, a little black kitty, probably 2 months old, I am guessing (hard to tell, all cats seem very small for some reason since I got Neevie)
She (I think) wasn't afraid, she just stayed with me and my was she famished! she ate a lot of my mum's anti-social cat's wet food, played a lot, and talked a lot, looking at me like I should understand what she was complaining about - then she just went to my mum's antisocial cat's litter (since obviously I was too thick to offer) and had a little wee - then settled and is now asleep on a pillow.
I think she's somebody's cat - I am going to do everything to find her human slaves but quite frankly after a few hours with her I think she would make such a great partner to Neevie's crazy antics ;-P
Of course, there is the issue of the rabies shot, the passport, not sure if she's old enough to get the shot or to travel even - and of course there's the issue of our holiday in August.... oh and of course the acceptance of HO of a little piece of fluff in his home - oh and for that matter the issue of Neevie's acceptance too.... still, I think none of it is unsurmountable - he who dares wins and all that.... I think I'm in love... even baptised her Lillyblack. sigh....

PS, my Mum thinks I'm mad and I have once again earned the title of Crazy-Cat-Lady with 5 stars...

Awww you are such a softie! I know if I found a kitten I would want to take care of it too! Your little pirate may get a bit miffed with mum, bringing home some competition! hahaha I love animals and I am so happy to have found others who feel the same! Alekto I have to say you are an awfully nice lady ! I think most of us would feel the same way as you do. I do hope you can sort things out for lillyblack to be part of your family and hope that Neevie has a new friend, please keep us posted !

well I had a chat with HO last night - and he was very stressed due to work issues - I introduced him to Lilly and explained the plan - he said that it was out of the question because if Neevie doesn't take to the little one Lilly will be toast and it would really make us both very very unhappy - better to find her a nice cat-less family here in France rater than put her through the ordeal of travelling so far to become saussage meat for an Monster Cat.... I have to say I see the wisdom in this - but I am mad about the cat already.... doh! to be continued...

Ahhh don't you just hate when the OH has to use wisdom? I think when ever you bring a new pet home there will be some tension, but who knows maybe a pal is what Neevie needs? Good luck with the tough decision, I know you will do what is right for Lillyblack. I am sure Jackie has some good advice :)

I do think someone has to show wisdom & unfortunately us with OH's seem to suffer from it,what can one say... I would suggest before getting yourself tied up too much take babe to a vets & get it aged as near as possible,with the vaccine over here they have to be 3 months of age before rabies can be given so using logic if babe is eight weeks by the time she is old enough to have the rabies vacc you will be home & either you have got to get mum on board to look after her get her vaccinated & pack her on her way so perhaps looking at things from the other side you might have to take a very sensible path & think about finding her a French home but if vet thinks she is of an age where she can be done & you can sort travel arrangements in time then I wouldn't worry about giant Neevie the other end, it's either going to be luv at first sight or an introduction that is going to take a bit of patience & love on all sides,there is that a most diplomatic reply....xxx

if there wasn't that worry about Neevie, Jackie, I would GLADLY go through all the vaccines and passports and transportation and .... everything.

We are talking pack animals here,yep you do get some loners & you can't get away from that but at the very worse you have to be prepared to have two cats who either tolerate each other or at very worse one has one side of the house & the second one the other......!!!!!! I had no trouble introducing the first three & it was only when my mate Merl arrived that we had trouble in the pack with hissing etc but it was a great day when they finally accepted him {it happened a while before it was shown openly sooooo many times we had come home & peeped through the window to see them all lying together but by the time we got in he would be on his own with the others telling us just how awful it was having him in the household}as to the larger ones flattening the little ones,they don't,Pansy P our little flat chested MC is treated with great respect by the larger ones who in their turn mother the babes anyway,they can get a bit over enthusiastic at playtime but a shriek from babe will soon pull them up,all of mine except Ruby plus my daughters MC's have led a very comfortable life alongside guinea pigs & indoor rabbits in the past & by that I mean laying & playing with them so I would have no fear of Neevie sitting on & squishing L,sometimes these little creatures are sent to us for a reason so head to the vets & find out where you stand age wise & start planning....please don't let OH read this as it isn't such a diplomatic reply this time was only trying to make you think logically before......xxxx

hi all - sorry I have been a bit silent, lately - my family has been keeping me busy!!! ;-)
so, progress: HO is now convinced...ish. He still insists that we should only take her if we do not find an acceptable home for her here - to which I wholeheartedly agree, however we do differ on the definition of acceptable.

Lilly can travel with the following:
Chip
Passport
Rabies vaccine done 3 weeks before she has to travel. Rabies can only be done officially when kitties are 3 months old.

We went to the vet, she seems to be 2 months old, so obviously can't get her rabies shot yet. HOOOOWEVER the vet was happy to declare her 2 AND A HALF months old so we wouldn't have to wait so long.

She didn't like getting chipped - granted the needle looked as big as her - and vaccinated against all those other nasties but she was good as gold.
She now is the proud owner of a passport.

NEXT STEPS:
Mum will make an honest(ly half-hearted - I hope) effort to find her a new home here in France - I will have a right to decline if it seems off to me -methink a lot of people will get declined.
in 2 weeks Lilly can get her rabies shot - Mum will cater to that.
in 4 weeks she can get her second baby-vaccination - Mum will cater to that
in 5 weeks I'll get a pet carrier to take her from Mum's (if Mum hasn't found a home here in France for her) and take her to us in the UK.

Where she will have to submit to the last test - the Neeviemetre. If she pass, she will not be eaten with a chicken sauce. If she doesn't... welllllllll..... we'll see.

If it doesn't work out, I'll be gutted - I have really grown attached to the little flee (she is like a flee, always jumping everywhere and fast like a flee, I think her name will be Lillypuss, puce meaning flee in french and pronounced puss - ain't it cute?...)

pet carriers take 800£ just to take small kitty from Normandy to London (not even newcastle, which is 6 hours away by car!!)
I am trying to see if I can work out something else
option 1) if I can manage a business trip to Paris in August .... perfectomundo.
option 2) if I can get a colleague to take her to London at least.... less perfectomundo but still acceptable...
800£ PLUS the trip from London to Newcastle is very very steep - HO would scream and jump up and down and get all red in the face if I even offered that....

I don't know if it could help but I am going out to France on a business trip in September and I should probably be driving but it is for a month so won't be back until the beginning of October. But if that would help you out I could bring puce back to London at least?

oh thanks AFK I'll keep you in mind just in case but I have to admit I really would like to get her way before for lots of reasons - first I don't want to give my Mum more time that she needs to place her, and also I'd like her to still be a small kitten when she meets Neevie I think it might be safer, since Jackie rekons Maine-Coons have a good chance to react better to kittens (right Jackie?)

for now I think I have managed to convinced a customer that they really need to see me during the week of 20th August precisely in Paris (which they really do, mind you, I'm not really cheating ;-)) - fingers crossed.... :nod:

When I see her run around like a flee and then come back to me for a cuddle before running off again, my heart melts and ain't no wild horses that's gonna separate me from her.

But sometimes I do want her to find her a new home, when I think of the potential harm and unhappiness she might have to endure if Neevie decides she doesn't like her.... I can only hope that things will go well, but the Pirate really did go bonkers when we tried to place her in a cattery for a holiday... so if she decides to go mad again because another cat is invading... ouhlala! as they say around here! On the other hand, if they take to each other, it would be wonderful - Neevie gets bored, and I really would love her to have another cat for company.

so.... wait and see - if my Mum does give Lili a home, I'll be heartbroken and it had better be a good home or else.... but it might be a relief.

In the meantime I'll read up on the forum, on the subject of introducing a new kitten ;-)

hi everyone - well as you know I'm back home to the Monster Pirate, who sneakily grew even bigger while I was away, and now I am worried again.
First, from time to time, for no reason at all, Neevie starts hissing and growling. If we pick her up she's ok. Not sure if she's being territorial again or if she's hurting somewhere? I'll see how it goes over the week end and then I'll take her to the vet if problems. I noticed a few spots of matted hair which I promptly cut off and groomed, may be that was what was bothering her.
Then today my friend came to see us, since I was in the garden she went in a few times to pick up some things, and she said that while I wasn't there, the Pirate was growling at her, and following her around like a tiger stalking its prey, like she thought my friend was up to no good... My friend has look after Neevie a few times, so the fact that Neevie is still behaving funny when someone she's not used to is in her territory doesn't bode well for Lili-Puss!
I guess we'll have to be extra careful if she comes here, introduce them slowly?

What do you think everyone? have you ever heard of a maine coon female being so territorial that she would maim a kitten?

Also, my mum's cat, who is an old dear, (13 years I believe), and extremely crabby, so much so that only my mum can approach her, is not happy with Lili being in her territory at the moment. Bernie (the old dear) actually is avoiding home, and even refusing to feed herself as a protest while this little flee is intruding on her territory (which suits Lili to the gound, while Bernie is away she's very happy to have a nap on Bernie's blanket on her behalf, eat in Bernie's bowl, and even poo in Bernie's litter even though she has her own) SO.... bit worried in case the Monster turns out to be as bonkers... Then again, it could be love at first sight, which would be just grand!
