Neevie, spayed last week, won't stop crooning
hi Everyone,
I am new to this forum so let me introduce:
First things first: my MC's name is Neevie - for me, I am French, married, I have been living in the north of UK for 18 years...
Neevie is 2 years old, and due to the fact that my previous 15 years old cat died on the operating table I have only found it in me to get her spayed, last week. It all went well, she behaved absolutely normally for the next day or so, but then that's when things started to change.
Before spaying, she was a bit aloof, independent and playful - we call her the Pirate because she used to walk about in a very assertive way (legs apart like a pirate), looking for naughty things to do. Usually could think of a thing or two on the way - if she came accross a leg, she'd give it a good bite, if she came accross something not on the floor, she'd push it to the floor... this kind of piraty things...
She had her moments of cuddliness, and usually it would come about as an urgent need to be cuddled, now now NOW!
However, since last week, she is getting very noisy, completely out of caracter, and very needy. She spends minutes sitting in front of me and just meowing adoringly, until I pick her up and give her a good long cuddle, then she goes away, sits in front of me and either resumes her meowing or just lays down against my side and starts purring.
Also, whereas before she was constantly eating (and not putting on any weight!!! so unfair!! ) - she could go through 4 or 5 pouches of her favorite food and a chicken breast PLUS dry food, on a good day! Now she bearly eats at all, and she has already lost a bit of weight.
I called the vet in the first few hours when it happened, who said that her hormones are probably out of whack. She doesn't seem to have any fever, or suffer at all, so aside from the fact that her behaviour is very un-Neevie-like, I am not too worried yet.
What I am looking for is reassurance that she will get back to her old self.
I like this cuddly cat, and I can put up with the meowing for a little while but I miss the Pirate. Also, compared to the way she was before, it doesn't seem natural.
Does anyone have a similar experience?
