the good and the bad sideof cat shows

Good bit first, our lovely Roco is now a GCCF Champion after her trip to the Cambria show BUT my little cream boy now has a cold and since we have three very young kitties inc. one I'm hand rearing I really wish I hadn't gone, cos if little one gets a virus... he has very, very little natural imunity, he does very occasionally drink from mum so maybe there are some anti bodies in him.

They are not kept near each other and I splurge Cuticura on my hands before I go in to see the kittens, but I'm really cross with myself for going (he was feeding more from Mum then, but has decided that it is easier to have a bottle.) Keep your fingers crossed for him!

Congratulations Roco & fingers crossed for babes,thats when I am pleased I don't breed because I know that my friend who does always says after she has been to a show that she has to change completely before going in with the babes just in case & double wash her hands in antibacteria,oh joys,keep us updated with pictures too please...x

was at the same show and my poor boy became ill on thursday last week - can only assume caught at the show too or at least that is what my vet has said- luckily all well now and only him that got it

Thank you for asking but not really... Beau is staring to eat again and doesn't feel so wreched but poor Roco is now feeling awful, she can't breath thru her nose and hasn't eaten or drunk anything, so I have been syringing a mixure of Vyio and water into her mouth! They are shut in the living room so there is a gap between them and the tinies up in their bedroom. so far all three seem fine and are getting into the really cute stage the smallest one is still being bottle fed but is defo feeding from mum too, so fingers (and everything else) crossed that they will not get it!

Does make you wonder what a horrible,strong virus this is, as the young cats are both fully inocculated and still they are suffering.

indeed , i know that i have been lucky as eric seems to have got over this so quickly ..only the odd sneeze ...but he was so depressed the first couple of days and i know the vet hated me going in and saying ...'hes just not eric' ...not very helpful to him. i am glad you tinies are ok and hope that roco and beau get better soon ...not nice when your babes are ill ... we worry so very much over them

Hope all goes well with the babies. Yes its wonderfull to do well at the shows , but its very scary bringing something back when you have very vunreble babies at home.

Beau is much better and is fast returning to his friendly, purring, nosy self but Roco is still ill, if it wasn't for Viyo she wouldn't have eaten for three days now! We've never brought a virus back from a show before, I guess we were just unlucky this time, but it has scratched our Supreme trip there is no way they will be well enough for that.

I've just had two older girls neutered too so they need a bit of TLC. and so far the tinies are fine, I now completely change my clothes before I go into their bedroom I will only relax once they're inocculated, so only another six weeks to go!

We've twice bought fleas back from GCCF shows :pissed: I know its not life threatening or anything but still bloody annoying. I know we didn't take them with us so they must have been picked up there. I show a white cat so theres no chance of missing them! Hope everyone makes a full and speedy recovery

Was it at Godmanchester? I overheard two fellow show goers complaining about the venue, evidently someone was spun at a vetting in there due to fleas, when she didn't have any problems at home, by all accounts the place is flea paradise, as it is a rescue centre... Woodgreen springs to mind.

Acually people do get turned away at shows when they should have kept kitty at home, someone tried to show their cat after it had burnt a circle of fur off on their Aga... needless to say the vets thought it was ringworm!

No, not Godmanchester, it was the Essex and then at the LH&SLH (last year - not this year). Been quite lucky this year *touch wood* not managed to bring any visitors home with us. I've not shown at Godmanchester but have been the three or four times with a friend (who had cats in the show) and she didn't report any problems. I think its just bad luck if it happens and I've got plenty of that :grr:

I guess it is only down to luck with blasted fleas etc... we have never had any fleas at all and yet I know damn well that we could be overrun with them in a blink!

Happily my two Tassare beauties are now getting better, I was so worried about Roco but now they are both back into making mischief but still snotty grr.

Glad your babes are better ...my two are but now my old lady has got it and is not coping well at all ..... with hypertension hyperthyroid and kidneys starting to go this may be the final straw ... i know that if i ever hear a cat sneeze at a a show again me and mine will be out of there so fast ........
