I know what you mean, karen, oscar is my first pure MC, and Ive only had him 2 weeks, so I was paranoid about him eating non cat food too. My breeder said that her MCs would ask for crisps when her daughter got them out!! I have found everybodies experiences reassuring. Sorry freyja had a bad experience, although as ive said,Oscar had a little strawberry yoghurt,I though perhaps it wasnt such a good idea after, but hes been fine. I have heard, in the past, that milk is bad for cats and not to give it to them, but Ive nether known if this was an old wives tale, or if it was true. I also wonder if its ok to give Oscar whiskas cat milk, (which you can buy in UK supermarkets, not sure about the rest of the world) for a treat as a substitute to our milk? If anyone can advise me on this, I would be greatful! By the way Freyja is absolutely stunning!!

Regarding the whiskas cat milk - based on the rice pud experience, I wouldn't touch any milk-based substance again, the poor little thing must have felt so undignified (there's a truly hilarious thread on the very subject of litter problems if you can find it). I have discovered a vitamin cat drink called Viyo, which I ordered from PetSupermarket.co.uk, and the nice thing is that you can dilute a sachet of 30 ml in water so it's less concentrated - she absolutely LOVES it; now she's discovered the garden, it's the only way to blackmail her back in doors! And when you dilute it, you increase their water intake which can never be a bad thing.

Freyja also says thank you for the compliment, and you're making her blush... I have to say, if you're looking at the photo in my signature, it's a particularly elegant and graceful Freyja; not the one I live with most days!

If you try the whiskas, I'd be curious to see how you get on with it.

Thanks for the tip, might steer well clear of the cat milk and go with your viyo recommendation instead! No, they are not as elegant and as graceful as their photos can suggest, as I have found out through my Oscar!! lol

Just discovered another one, the filling from an egg custard! A bit of the filling came away as I took a bite and Roxy polished it off. Then of course Hector had to try it too oh they loved it.

    Scrounging odd foods

Ordinary milk can kill the natural bacteria in the gut & cause diarrhoea so would normally say avoid it but then there are a lot of cats who have no side effects from it...
I wouldn't personally give it to any of mine & if your cats like their water stick to it thats all they would have out in the wild after they were weaned off of mum.
I have one cat who does love yoghurt so she is allowed one tiny teaspoon as a special treat in the morning, she will sit by the fridge door until she gets it,must be the cheapest from one of the big stores,8p a pot, last of the big spenders,it looks like water but she loves it because there are no fruit bits,if we have forgotten to buy her pot & give her some of ours with the bits she sucks the yoghurt off & spits out the fruit & by the time she finishes there is a neat line on the side of her plate.Weird thing is all the others will try & be the one to get our lid to lick but none of them bother little Pansy while she has her treat.

wiskas cat milk is milk without the milksugar and stuff, cats can`t digest. so they can drink cat milk without problems... I still would not give the milk to them, since they don`t need it to be healthy...
My cats love yoghurt and cheese, too. They get a tiny bit maybe twice a year. I am really careful with threats, especially with such that aren`t healthy for them. I am a picky eater myself, maybe that`s why. My cats even get organic cat food, since I eat organic as much as possible. *lol*
    Don`t dream it, BE it!

Thanks for the tips regarding the cat milk issue, some very good points made, so I will give it a miss, Oscar wont miss what he doesnt have!! As alweays, love reading all of your experiences regarding your MCs food antics, how intelligent of pansy to spit the fruit peices out of the yoghurt first, really made me chuckle!!
