Hi im new to his site so forgive me if i am not doing this correct. Im worried about my kitten she has been spayed 2 days ago. And has one of those horrid cone things on her head, she is very unhappy about it and sulking and not eatin very much, i tried to take it off for her to eat but she just started biting her stitches. She is usually a lunatic running about but the 2 days since op she has got quieter and quieter im worried is this normal .
She also has poo'd on the floor the first time ever . I feel very guilty for putting her through this. She has also stoppped drinking .

Our girl Bella was very poorly looking for a couple of days after her spaying, and we were very concerned, but she then started improving. I know some people on here have said that their girls showed few effects, but that was not our experience. She wasn't forced to wear a cone, either, but did not bother her incision. Our male that had to have surgery at 16 weeks did need the cone, and hated it. Luckily he had to stay at the vet while he had it on. I don't really see that you can remove it if she immediately starts bothering the incision. If she does not improve at all after two days, I would call vet and maybe take her in. Certainly keep an eye on her for signs of complications like fever (e.g., if she becomes totally lethargic). She may have pooed on the floor because she was too sore to climb in the litter box. Might need to create a temp box with very low sides. Not eating much for a couple of days is probably normal if they are feeling poorly, but you don't want it going on too long. I would make certain you are feeding her canned food with its high water content during this time. Did you get pain medication? Sounds like she might need it. Hope she improves soon. I remember feeling terrible about our girl when she was done. It seems like it was five days or so before she was back to her normal self.

I would say that after 48hrs with this type of behaviour I would get her checked out,like NCarver says she could be feeling really sore & can feel the stitches pulling,more likely to be the inner ones rather than the outer but she doesn't realise that.Perhaps she is one of the very few that does need an extra pain killer to help her settle.
This is where the method that our vets use really comes into play,because the top layer of sutures are run under the skin & except for a really small tie off knot there is nothing for the animal to pull at so normally except for a quick lick at the op site they can't do any damage....

This is not normal, they are usually very quiet and sleepy but only for a short time, they do not like the collar but they normally get used to it if a bit clumsily, but this does not stop them eating and drinking and using the tray.. To be on the safe side I would take her back to the vets, she maybe needs a little antibiotics.

I think you mustn’t delay and should take her to the vet asap.
I am not very experienced on this subject… only ever had three kitties spayed (my two Coonie girls and the moggy we had when I lived with my parents). But all three of them were right as rain within 24 hours after the op.

Have to say - although I realise it's not very helpful - that I agree with Antonia; I've only had one girl done and despite a Seroma about 5 days after the op (my MC was tearing round the house like a kitten possessed within a couple of hours of getting home from the op, which is what caused the Seroma) she was fine - back to normal amazingly quickly. When the seroma came up I took her straight down - I'm so new to this I figured it was better safe than sorry. Hope she's feeling better by the time you read this - keep us posted with how she's doing.
