Any reputable breeder in the United States will test and use only HCM free cats. Using HCM positive cats is abuse in my opinion. Also a reputable breeder here will test for and use cats that don't have hip dysplasia.

Sometimes on breeders website in the UK you will see breeding cats that are described as HCM 'negative by parents', as opposed to 'HCM MYPBC3 Gene Negative'. Should the former be avoided then? I do find it confusing!

Our kitten was neutered yesterday, and the vet said while doing the procedure the heart monitor was beeping- she said it had to do with the left ventricle and wants us to take him to a cardiologist for screening. Bought him from a breeder says the parents have been echo checked and are hcm negative. Is the monitor they use for neutering a reliable indicator?

hey Paxton, I am sorry, I know how it feels to worry and not know what to do - we have a few people here who would probably know better than me if those monitors are reliable or not, but I would still take him to the cardiologist just in case - hopefully it's nothing but you don't want to regret not doing it...
