    Good info on another forum...

I dunno how many of you are also on petforums and have seen these threads, but "hobbs" has done quite a lot of work getting data together on wet and dry foods.

Based on what I have read here and subsequently read there, with some research, I am picking up some Orijen dry today for the monsters, maybe some Applaws too if I find it while waiting for zooplus to deliver a variety of Bozita.

Orijen have a very readable white paper on cat and dog diets - even if the focus later in the paper is on dogs. Makes a good read:

I'm curious to see how you get on with bozita and applaws - they gave both of mine Runny Bottom Syndrome, suspect they were too rich. The applaws is much nicer looking stuff than whiskas, it actually looks like tuna and chicken!

Applaws is one of only a few brands that Mufasa will eat. It's very true it does actually look like what it says it is and actually smells quite nice! We haven't had any problems with it at all and have tried both the pouches and the tins. Sadly the dry food was too small and he just swallowed it whole!

Well, picked up the Orijen from the same feed place I get the chick crumb cat litter (G J W Titmuss nr St Albans) and the Bozita will get here whenever zooplus get to it.

In the meantime I went into Morrisons on the way home since they sell HiLife kitten - got a couple of boxes to tide the creatures over. But what I also found is Feline Fayre pouches which the packaging says is a 60% fish complimentary food but at 34p for 1 pouch, 4 for a pound or (get this) an 8 pack for 99p. Cough. How much ? Six boxes of 8 pouches later...

So the little zombies tried a couple of pouches for lunch and it vanished. Let see what happens at the other end shortly ;)

The show cats have either Applaws or Fine Fayre Aristocat range as a special treat on show days,I brought extra Applaws home once as I felt guilty & had runny bum syndrome with a couple so knocked that on head, back to a tin or sachet show time only, the Blue range of Fine Fayre they love, except the seafood for some reason not so impressed, they have that for breakfast all of them every third or fourth day , "great nanny" buys it for them as she has only got four legged great grandchildren but any more often than that & the same two cats have problems the other end. That was the one food that used to get Bruce eating when he had his gum flare up which luckily, touch wood, hasn't happened for a good while now, hopefully he has outgrown it......

My cats love the bozita and I stick to one flavour to try and avoid stomach upsets (rich in chicken). They get one tetra pack between them per day supplemented by their dry food (proplan delicate at the mo).

Thanks Peter will make some good bedtime reading, will have to gradually work through them,I would only go for the ones though that show magnesium content, being the old school & seeing more problems with cats that have had dry foods with high mag.content , although to be fair they are more often the "stores" own brand along with a couple of others,I am very wary even though mine do not have that much dry to really be concerened about.I know I was using a dry food many years ago that didn't have magnesium declared on the side of the bag & felt really chuffed{think I know which one it is although not 100% sure & it still doesn't} so phoned up the helpline & the answer was a pretty high content, more than I would normally look to using.
So now you know with my pen & paper beside me what I will be doing....!

I discovered these threads a few months ago and have started giving mine Bozita, although two will eat it, one wont It did give them the rear end squirts at first, but I think I was a bit too over-enthusiastic by introducing it too fast. They are fine on it now. It does seem to satisfy Alfie for longer than Felix pouches used to. Chester still has Felix - he turns his nose up at the Bozita. There is a lot of useful information on these threads

I bought some Bozita for Moshi, as the breeder says she loved it, however it gives her a runny bum if I give it to her on its own. I mix it with Felix kitten now and she seems to be able to tolerate it better. I think she finds it too rich neat :-)
