    Hello,

perhaps ask you is stupid, but I'm curious what they eat your Maine Coon?

My cat when she got home continues to eat the same food and wet dog food Royal Canin Kitten always, because it's still tiny, it has 7 months.

    Hi Lune & Romeo,

I don't profess to be an expert - and I may have misunderstood your post - but giving cats dog food can be quite unhealthy for them; cats need taurine in their diet, or they go blind, and dog food contains no taurine - if you feed a cat a diet of dog food, I believe it is likely to lose it's sight over the course of time.

Freyja is 5 months old, and has Royal Canin Kitten 36 down all day to snack on - this was recommended by the breeder. She was originally on Whiskas Simply Adult pouches twice a day but we've slowly moved her on to Applaws as it's got a much higher meat content. A couple of times a week she also has half a Viyo vitamin drink for kittens, and we'll sometimes substitute a pouch for a piece of steamed salmon or coley fish. The advice the guys on the forum gave me when I first got her was to follow the diet that the Breeder recommended until she'd settled into her new home, then slowly try her on other foods to see how she got on with them. It's important to do it slowly as they've got delicate digestive systems and it doesn't take much to upset them. And trust me, it's not a pleasant experience when they've got an upset stomach!

Hope that helps. In my view, the most important thing would be to make sure she gets cat food to ensure she gets sufficient taurine intake. Check with the other members though - we've got a few breeders and vets on the site who will have much better advice than mine!

I would stop her eating the wet dog food it has completely different supplements in it to a cats requirements but do get her wet cat food if that is what she enjoys. There are several threads on this forum {could have to do a bit of research on all the postings !} as to how people feed their cats & everyone has different ideas so you do what you & your babe are happy with, the only thing I would say is whatever dry food you continue to give her make sure that is one of the better makes like the kitten you are giving her at the moment, mine have Hills Natures Best & even the babes were on the adult by the time they were 6mths,Hills Oral because it is a big kibble to crunch on {but the RC, think that is the make Maine Coon biscuit is the same, just too rich for the tums of some of my cats}& RC hairball for obviuos reasons but they only get very small quantities of dried as their main diet is good old tinned Felix.....

My two also have RC kitten down all day by their water and due to them being very picky about what they eat they have a mixture of applaws fish and Purina gourmet! They like the small pieces of meat in gravy they used to have felix kitten but started to refuse to eat it, I have some of it left and try them with it sometimes but they just lick the gravy off it and leave the meat!

We have biscuits down all day and because we have a coonie, tonk and a moggie I have different varieties but the all eat them. We mix it up with purina (different varieties from kitten to furball), whiskas, rc maine coon (which they all love!).
They also get either a wet whiskas pouch at night or more often raw meat.

    I would not stop anyone.

But when she got the cat completely rifituava food, both wet and dry food, and I thought it was stress to the new environment and new home, but not like other brands and after so long I finally found it at this Royal Canin is good, loves the umdio lot and rarely eats dry instead.

85gr damp day, always the Royal Canin.
But the dry eat when hungry,

Has two bowls of water always available and also a good fountain drinks.

I feed my almost 8 month old MC Iams dry kitten food. She has food and water available 24/7. I buy the Friskies Party Mix treats, she gets a few a day.

I feed Chester (almost 7 months) the following:
    * kitten 36 RC biscuits (once per day for grazing)
    * half pouch of whiskas morning and night
    * wet food (kangaroo meat usually) day and night

Don't ever let your kitty eat wet dog food, my Red MC was very fond of raiding my dog's food until she got the worse case of dookie ever... it took months to get her right again! I now guard the dogs until they have finished their food against feline thieves and only feed Royal Canin Sensible 33, baby cat and kitten to the cats. So no more dookie = happy everyone

Thanks to all who answered me!

Reginella eats the wet food ALMO NATURE KITTEN and instead the dry ROYAL CANIN KITTEN 36

And from September Lune will change the wet food from Royal Canin KITTEN to ALMO NATURE.

    What do you think?
