i've just got out his pedigree and sure as hell there is one with Jasper in its name that is showing as great great great grandad on his mothers side! mother Crystal, father Riley. There is no mention in any of the paperwork of HCM. I didnt get him from Tara, his previous owner sold him to me and I called her straight away to let her know that I have him and gave her all my details. i've had him 3-4 months and want another one so he has someone his own size to play with. It seemed to make sense to call her first as I already have one of her kitties, and she told me she still has his sister. It was only today I called her.

I have looked on the HCM Negative Register and there is no mention of her or her cats so I'm thinking they are possibly not being tested? I dont know much about it to be honest, but i need to try and find out because its a lot of money to spend if there is a chance of her having this. I dont think i would cope with the heartache!! my boy has taken over my entire world in the last few months - who knew a cat could do that? lol. I will defiinately be asking her about it when I go.

I just found this on her website "We are at present testing our breeding cats for HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy). not sure why its not showing her cats on the register? or is this just for cats tested at the feline advisory bureau? As i said, i dont know very much about it

Yes its said that on the website for 6 years

I have no knowledge of the register or what it means if you aren't on it im afraid. The best you can do is ask to see the test results...if there arent any as i said before i wouldnt bother personally but thats just me.

What reason did the previous owner give to you for rehoming the kitty? I have had a look on the site and noticed that Riley and Jasper (Kititas Tangle Awjasper) are bred by the same lady (kititas). No sign of crystal on the website anymore.

MC's do definitely take over! I thought I could never bear to have another after what happened, but I'm hopefully picking up my new boy this weekend. (He is 2 years old and his parents have been tested )

My advice to anyone getting a MC is to get them insured! My mum spent nr £2000 in vets fees, then we lost him anyway. Its not all about money but its a big factor!

Apparently their baby was allergic to him so had to re-home him in a hurry. There is a pic of Crystal on the kittens page where it says what kittens are/were available. The pic is with her and a litter of kittens and my boy is one of the kittens - the sister is also there that we are going to see.

Aww I hope your new boy brings you much joy! I will definately ask for test results - they are relevant to my boy as well so i really want to know now. Because my boy was rehomed in a hurry I only paid a fraction of what the previous owners paid for him, but if I have another one obviously it will be the full price so I want to be sure of what I'm buying. I do understand that its not all about the money, but if you pay good money for anything, you expect it to be "as described" and to get that kind of vets bill to lose him anyway must have been awful. My vet said he would keep him in if he were his, but i still let him out because he loves to play outside....usually in my neighbours pond hahaha! I dont have them insured at the moment, but I'm now thinking it may be a very good idea!!

Oh that must have been hard for them to do, but great for you! I must admit I also would keep him in, I always kept Dudey in as I feared he may be stolen along with all the other dangers outside. My moggie was one of many cats in the area to be poisoned in January, using anti-freeze. Thats something to bear in mind as many breeders now have it written into the contract that the cat remain indoors. I dont remember if this was or is Taras policy, but we were always going to be keeping him in anyway.

Insurance is an absolute must- I was lucky my mum was able to pay, otherwise he would have been PTS straight away. That said looking back it probably would have been the kindest thing, but we didnt even know what was wrong for a while. I already have insurance in place for my new boy and its only £7 a month, really wouldnt be without it! It will be with Healthy pets, they are fab as they state very clearly on the website exactly whats covered for each level of policy.

Hiya. Right, time for the update. Yes she is having them tested for HCM. She volunteered information about cats that had had this in the genes and having identified which cat was passing it on, she had her neutered and retired from breeding. We were there 3 hours this afternoon, and she showed us all her cats, and lots of paperwork for them - including the parents of my boy.

So in light of this, my boys sister will be coming to live with us. She is going to have her neutered, and once she has recovered from that I will go to collect her
