    problems with other cat?

New to the forum. Not sure where to ask this q. Our maine coon came into our hsehold joining our 14 yr old really much smaller cat. I think Bowie is just wanting a playmate, but he is so big and active he terrorizes the poor old lady. If he chases and catches her, which he does when we aren't paying attention....he just hovers on top of her. We separate them if no people are home as we are afraid he may really hurt her unintentionally. (he is so good natured I really don't think he means to hurt her) Any suggestions on how to handle this? How do these cats do with medium sized dogs? Is that just an individual thing? I feel like we ought to get another maine coon or a dog so he has someone to chase around etc....Thanks for any advise.

MC's seem to get on very well with dogs but as one MC is never enough perhaps that could be the way to go if you think it is really necessary. We have had the same problem with our two newest babes & the little flat chested MC girl, when they were little they played well together but it wasn't long before they outgrew her & now are massive beside her but they still want to play the same, she runs like hell with her little legs & the babes do a couple of steps & they have got her,you know they don't mean to hurt & if she stood her ground she would be fine but I suppose you don't want to risk it with a couple of giants, just no never worked with ours but a quick squirt with water spray & a no does wonders, they soon settle & let harmony reign again, they do all get shut up & sleep together & they always wander out as a happy bunch in the mornings & I am sure if she had ever been really hurt that wouldn't happen but I know it is a worry to see it going on & as you say your poor old lady doesn't need it at her age, pity she won't give a good hiss that might make Bowie stop & think a bit,Pansy does try but like the rest of her it comes out a bit pathetic.Instead of just getting him off of her try & attract his attention with a favourite toy & turn it to playtime with you, make his toys more interesting to him than her, this has worked for us with only one being OTT but when two were involved no way...
