Thanks guys it was touch and go but he is ok at the moment :-))
I got a call a few hours after he went in to say that his temperature actually got worse after antibiotics, which was very worrying. So they took his bloods and put him on a drip to re-hydrate him.
Basically his heart, lungs, liver, kidneys etc.. are fine. He had an abnormal white blood cell count which the vet hoped was down to a viral infection that should improve over night after giving the treatment time to work.
I had a phone call this morning to say he responded well, his temp is now back to normal, he had ripped his drip out and started acting very alert and feisty towards the nurses (apparently very LOUDLY telling them to back off.) This was the best phone call I have ever had!
We brought him home an hour ago, the first thing he did was drink lots of water and scoff down food as if he hadn't eaten in 2 days (which he hadn't!) He seems completely back to his old self at the moment, strutting around, wagging his tail and exploring.
We don't actually know what was up with him, vet said some sort of viral infection but without more blood tests we cant be certain, and she doesn't think its worth taking more bloods at the moment as he seems back to normal.
He has been given another dose of antibiotics, and I need to give him some anti-inflammatory drugs to be safe.
The turn around was so quick! He is like a completely different cat to the one we dropped off at the vet just 24 hours ago, so relieved. Thanks for your concern xx
