Lethargic & Not Eating - Bungo is not well :-(

We took Bungo, our 2 year old to the vet this morning as he is one poorly boy.

I first noticed yesterday morning, he didn’t follow us round in the morning like he usually does and just stayed in his bed. I just thought at first that he was having a lazy day.

When I got home last night I noticed he hadn’t eaten anything and was still unusually sleepy. I knew for sure something was wrong when he turned his nose up at a tin of Tuna.

This morning again there was no improvement, we took him to the vet first thing and he has a temperature. They have taken him to start antibiotics and for observation as we are not sure when he last urinated.

Now is the agonizing wait to see if he reacts positively to the treatment and if they can diagnose what is wrong with him. I HATE seeing him like that, so helpless. He didn't even fight us when we put him in his carrier. I am hoping that we have caught whatever it is in time xx

I hope Bungo is well very soon. It is so difficult to feel helpless. Sending good thoughts your way.

Poor Bongo,a high temperature really knocks our furries for six so strong vibes that the ab's soon kick in & he will be a lot brighter in 24hrs.....normally if they haven't urinated the vet can feel if the bladder is overfull so hopefully his waterworks are not involved at all, have you had an update from the vets yet....? xxx

Thanks guys it was touch and go but he is ok at the moment :-))

I got a call a few hours after he went in to say that his temperature actually got worse after antibiotics, which was very worrying. So they took his bloods and put him on a drip to re-hydrate him.

Basically his heart, lungs, liver, kidneys etc.. are fine. He had an abnormal white blood cell count which the vet hoped was down to a viral infection that should improve over night after giving the treatment time to work.

I had a phone call this morning to say he responded well, his temp is now back to normal, he had ripped his drip out and started acting very alert and feisty towards the nurses (apparently very LOUDLY telling them to back off.) This was the best phone call I have ever had!

We brought him home an hour ago, the first thing he did was drink lots of water and scoff down food as if he hadn't eaten in 2 days (which he hadn't!) He seems completely back to his old self at the moment, strutting around, wagging his tail and exploring.

We don't actually know what was up with him, vet said some sort of viral infection but without more blood tests we cant be certain, and she doesn't think its worth taking more bloods at the moment as he seems back to normal.

He has been given another dose of antibiotics, and I need to give him some anti-inflammatory drugs to be safe.

The turn around was so quick! He is like a completely different cat to the one we dropped off at the vet just 24 hours ago, so relieved. Thanks for your concern xx

What brilliant news.... I had the same type of thing with my flat chested girl she appeared unwell, took her to work with me & her temp was spiralling upwards by the second, she collapsed on the table but couldn't drip her because of her problems knew the stress would make it worse so vet gave her a whopping big ab inj,not the run of mill that we would normally start with but as she was so bad he hit her straight away with a stronger one plus good old steroids, all during my shift I kept going through & giving her fluids by mouth as often as I could,by the time I left off I took a very happy girl home who like Bongo demanded to be fed thank you, water was not her first choice.... These furries have remarkable powers of recovery & very often you are left not sure of what has actually caused it & very often it is mum & dad who take the longest to recover from the shock of it all so cuddles to you....xxx
