Thread: Freyja's had her op

Glad she's ok Karen, I know what you mean about the tearing around like a mad thing, but she will only do what she feels comfortable with, bit like us after having an op we know our own limits. Hugs and cuddles to Freya x

Glad it all went well - I had a couple of girls spayed a few weeks ago and they seemed to take a while to get over it whereas one of our youngsters was spayed and you wouldn't have known anything had happened to her!

Glad that all went well and you survived the pre op fast! There is nothing quite like a mc who is not allowed their breakfast I found. One thing I can assure you is that she will not open her wound, my two carried on with their usual 'gentle' play and Roxy was fine I however was a bag of nerves every time they had a mad half hour!

I've had a few older girls spayed and always kept them in quiet rooms until the stiches were out, this might not have been necessary but I did have a boy who was a monorchid so he had to be opened up! And he did burst his stithces afterwards... it was not pretty, he had to have cage rest until he was better as the vets were worried about him SO WAS I, but he did recover completely and I became paraniod about burst stiches!

That's very reassuring, thanks. I have to say, the vet has done an excellent job and Freyja doesn't really seem to know that anything's amiss. I suspect I'll chill once she's had her final check up this Saturday (I hope I will otherwise Husband will have me committed; he's pointed out several times that cats don't understand "watch your bloody stitches, missus"!

Yep,we always reckon if an animal could read its post op sheet then it would make things easier for the owners,since the boss has done sub cut sutures on all spays {including dogs}we have far less problems because there is no stitches for the little darlings to get out saves a lot of panic on behalf of the parents,no emergancy phone calls to say there is a stitch missing...To begin with its the ligatures on the internal parts that are more the worry in case they slip & bleeding starts but,here we go,when I was young,the vet that I first worked for never tied off anything in cat spays he used to clamp for a few seconds let go nothing bleeding then sew up,never lost one.I know burst wounds do look awful but it is surprising how well they heal just sometimes seem to take forever,very unlucky for the little "monorchid"boy but come on someone has to have it,just look on it as being lucky for us who work there,it gives us a chance to get to know an animal a lot better & have more cuddles & kisses with them.......I Doesn't help you though I know.
