My ex used to hold Samantha by the scruff under her arm while I took the electric clipper and trimmed a potty patch and cut the britches way down.
I learned early on that bad, bad things can happen if poop get's matted in the fur and blocks the backdoor.

I know what you mean, the art of scruffing a coonies neck and tail in the same hand whilst washing pooey pants is not easily mastered, but it is an essential art when owning coonies.
Anyway as you can tell from the fact that I am here means the deed is done the britches are in the bin. And I lived to type the tale.

Carol Ann you raise an excellent discussion point re flies and dirty britches. Not something anyone ever wishes to think about but took in a rescue moggy a few years ago who had fly strike, my guess initially caused by the not cleaning of the messy bits until it was far far too late.

For anyone who thinks fly strike is something rabbits get, wrong; cats and dogs can get it as well. For those who don't know what it is get a bucket and then google. And if untreated it will cause a long slow painful death of the animal. (Someone send me some happy pills please)

The best defense is regular butt and britches trims, it a lot easier to trim before there's a problem then it is when they are matted with poop.
After my ex and I split up it was impossible for me to demat or trim Samantha's britches by my self, you need at least 4 arms.
Luckily I found a very nice groomer close to my home, they would schedule Samantha before the dogs came in.
Of course she cried all the way there which was like 5 minutes but killed me because I'm such a softy.
But I was told by the girls there that she was super good and didn't cry or make a fuss but one she heard my voice when I arrived to pick her up she would start to cry.
Once she got home I give her lots of pets and treats, she smell so nice and her coat just glowed from these sessions.
