As a dog groomer I won't do cats. I advise people to go to the vet to have them de-matted. The skin is too fine and can easily be nicked by the clippers,
also it is very stressful for cats and they can be very wriggly. If they aren't that bad then get some de-matting conditioner that you can use on cats. I use double k conditioner available from Christies which is mild enough for puppies and kittens. Try and tease the matts apart, do not bathe the cats as this will tighten the matts. Good luck.

I would get your red silver boy shaved at the vet. I have had this done in the past. They do it under mild sedation, not full anaesthetic. He will feel so much happier and more comfortable afterwards. Then once that's done, do get him used to being brushed, little and often, and reward him with a treat so he builds up a positive association with being groomed.

Would love to see pictures, by the way! Poor lads being unwanted. Hope they are settling in well with you.
