Fabulous pics!!! What a great big softy - our Hobbes is just the same, which came as a surprise because our other boy Spike can't bear to be cuddled. Mind you, he has spondilitis, which probably explains why he hates his back being touched.

I wonder how Spike would react to that?
He's actually had a disc problem as well, which at one point paralysed his tail
. Our vet treated him with a cat version of ibuprofen and some cosequin, not sure he was very hopeful as he actually suggested we might have to amputate the tail 
Anyway, the treatment worked and all but the last three inches of Spike's tail recovered - the tip of his tail droops but he seems happy enough.
He has never really been a cuddlecat though and we thought it was maybe a "boy" thing - until we met Hobbes!!!

It might be worth looking into. I asked my friend who used a vet in Bristol who did accupuncture (not her regular vet) I am sure your vet will know of someone that could help. As it's an alternative medicine some vets may be sceptical.
