Can't add much to above & I also don't allow any of my MC's into the outside world, only into a safeproof garden & pen, but if that is what you want to do I would suggest getting him microchipped & getting the flap that you program to allow only him through, collars are dangerous things on their own on cats, have seen lots of nasty accidents including deaths through them at work.
Hope "cat" soon gets a name,we took on a stray moggy years ago & I didn't want to raise daughters hopes that we would keep it if the owner wasn't found so I told daughter we were looking after it for a couple of weeks while the people were away & of course then got the obvious question "Whats its name",sugar, hadn't thought that one out so off of top of head said Pusskins, she went to her little grave with that name, wouldn't answer to anything else when we decided that she wasn't going to be claimed, seemed to suit her though...!

Thank you all so much. Cat now has name Buddy!

Taking on board that most of your cats don't go out we are securing a section of the garden for Buddy to keep him safe at least until I get to know him properly.

Food wise, I will continue to give him tin morning and evening and leave dry food down all the time. Will continue with fresh chicken etc until weight up and then use as treats in smaller amounts. He used litterbox overnight, and boy did he use it, so think you were all right in him just settling in. I did move the litterbox to give Buddy more privacy.

Have decided to buy the dog carrier as before his previous owner became ill Buddy was 9kg. He is 40 inches nose to end of tail. Took me nearly an hour to measure him as he thought tape measure was a toy. He is starting to play now, bit like an overgrown kitten. Off out to buy him some more toys today.

Glad things are smoothing out for you...and I love the name Buddy.
We all seem to try so hard to do what is best and I found just relaxing a bit helped.
Paris poops every other day, and pees one to two times a day, her back up bowl is dry food, and she has one small can of wet food a day. And just a few cat treats a day from my husband.
    You're doing good.
One little tid bit, when the door bell rings, Paris runs to the door and then hisses at who ever it is....I guess, instead of barking. It's funny.
