After a very sleepless night with Buddy I took him to the Vets this morning as he was just lying still mumbling away to himself. They kept him in an put him on a drip as a precaution due to his kidney problems. Three hours later I got a phone call from one of the nurses to say i should go over straight away as he was gagging and his breathing was strange. Panic struck and rushed over there just in time to witness Buddy producing the biggest fur log I have ever seen and the smell! Cleared the room in seconds. The Vet checked him over again and said that the size of the fur ball had probably been causing problems coming through (why call it a ball? This thing was about 6 inches long and about 2 across).

Buddy is home now curled up on the sofa next to me. He's had a spoonful of steamed cod, which the Vet said to give him every hour. I've got to make sure he keeps drinking and don't know whether the Vet was having a dig that I baby my cat too much but he said to use a feeding bottle if he won't use a bowl. I did explain that he doesn't use a bowl, just the sink but just got a strange look and raised eyebrows.

If he manages to keep the fish down, he is obviously hungry and I had to make him eat slowly, I will try the rice and egg tonight.

    Thank you all x
