My Leo is much the same and it was about 5 or 6 months before my three even realised they could jump *onto* things that weren't their cat tree. And this is how I think Dicky hurt his tail - probably missed and fell on his butt.

PS Limp tail all gone now - took a while, but the flagpole is at full mast ;)

Elvis was extremely uncoordinated until he hit 1 1/2 years or so.

Tripping, stumbling, falling off of things.

He's getting a lot better now that his bones aren't growing faster than the rest of him.

He can jump from the floor to the top of the refrigerator with room to spare almost effortlessly.

It's my understanding that the boys are big klutzes until they grow into their bodies, My Samantha by contrast was was extremely agile in spite of her large (17lbs) size.
She could leap to the top of the 6 foot bookcase from the floor and was a champion "Mouseball" player.

Thanks all! You've put my mind at ease to know it's pretty common.
That money in the bank account idea is good!!! I hope I don't end up with broken bones and injured butts, though! Haha scratched eyes and cat sniffles are enough for the vet to know me as a regular lately.

Now that he can jump up onto the counter I can't hide my adults dinners up there out of the way of greedy guts aka Leo :(

I wonder whether sometimes he misjudges distances or if he is just aiming too high at his age...

His body is growing faster then his brain can adjust for, he's like a teenage boy going through a growth spurts except it's literally happening overnight.
They start out all ears and paws, then their limbs catch up and finally they fill out, last thing to grow up is their kitten brain and some male Maine Coons never grow up they remain over-sized kittens their whole lives, that one of the many reason they're so beloved as wonderful family pets.
The girls on the other hand are dignified and gracious, very loving and gentle but maybe not so demonstrative as the boys, they are also breathtakingly beautiful and well aware of this fact.

Well the ears are certainly there, paws are as big as my adult cats and tail is starting to fluff up (it's so cute and soft) so that's all happening. I've also noticed his tail is getting longer, it's so beautiful even in it's current pre-brush stage. No sign of the neck ruff yet though (not sure when that is due).

The kitchen counter is his new favourite place. I woke up this morning to find him on top of my kitchen shelves, pushing bits an pieces onto the counter/floor. Crazy cats

I've always thought that Kenny doesn't realise just how big he is - he flies around like the kitten he really is and he's always nearly falling off things - he's like a big clumsy clown. He will suddenly take off, jumping on the kitchen counters and tearing around the room. He's now long enough to reach up and grab things off the counters so he doesn't even have to jump now to cause mayhem!

By the way, it's his 1st birthday today so it's definitely Kenny party time!

Well, my two are just the opposite. Hugo is the Instant Vertical Levitator, killer of Bunny fuzz toys, and all around Olympic athlete, and sadly he knows it. He struts he's stuff, and complains if I don't keep him flying through the air chasing this or that, to MY exhaustion.

I must add: We rescued both of these beautiful People from our local humane society, they were estimated to be the same age about 2.5 months, their conditions however were vastly different at pickup time. Hugo was in fine fiddle at about 4 Lb all legs and energy, and hunting for Jam, MieMei However was 2.5 LB, had just been fixed, intestinal and lung worms (unknown at pickup), then immediately got a bad "cold." All of this added up to a situation bad enough that we had to take her in the wee hours of the night to Purdue Universities' Pet Emergency room. So 8 months later she weighs about 12 LB, is the kindest gentlest soul I have ever met, and couldn't walk 10 feet without nearly tripping over herself. But she is healthy.

    so,

MeiMei, is just the opposite at play, where Hugo just slaps something out of the air "having done a 2.5 with a tuck" or hooks it in with his claws as it flies by, MieMie's timing and coordination is WAY off. To a large extent she has turned into, what I am calling an "opportunistic player", if it comes to her: "OH BOY let me at it, but once it is out of "I'm comfortable here and I don't wanna chase that dad, would you please bring it within reach please so I can tap it again, range she wont generally chase it.

Not every cat is an Olympic star, but we love them all the same, more so, maybe, when they have overcome a bad start.

    need to post new Photos . . . .

I have two kittens of 11 months . The biggest -Silver is a walking diaster area because he still thinks he is three months old and hurtles about most of the time . The problem is he is very uncordinated becuse he is very long so stopping is difficult especially if you are close to 7.5 kg
He is really quick in a straight line but things become hilarious as soon as he tries to change direction .He just cant turn like his very nimble smaller brother nero
Nero definately knows this knows so when he gets chased ( which is often) he seems to deliberately run at things and swerve at the last minute . Silver cant stop of course and slides into them on a regular basis.
This calms him down but only for about five minutes.

Basil is the same he is six months now. Until recently he hadn't worked the counter out. But then he discovered he can climb up legs.......that was short lived though as he found out if he jumps on the cooker doorhandle he can reach the bunker. Loud crashes in the middle of the night I have ear plugs now
