What is the best harness to use for Maine Coons

I just wondered what sort of harness would be best to buy for my Maine Coon. I recently bought a conventional cat harness but it didn't go around his girth (he's currently 10 months old and 17 pounds in weight). Should I try to find a larger cat harness, or move to a small dog harness, or are there special harnesses for Maine Coons. Grateful for any advice from forum members xx

I use a Mynwood cat jacket on Kenny. They make them to order and are fastened with velcro so are adjustable. Here's the link: Home - Mynwood Cat Jackets-Original, escape-proof Jacket

Hi - I used to have a soft fabric harness when Mufasa was younger, but he seemed to be able to 'back' out of that quite easily. When I purchased the tether and stake thingy from Amazon I also purchased a cat harness for a 'large' cat. He is a big boy and now weighs 10.1kg, but the harness still fits him with more room to grow. It's the same make as the red one in the link shown here, but it is patterned so maybe if you fancy something a bit more jazzy you could see if anyone else has this make:

This very similar one is from Amazon too and has a maine coon on the packet - it is girly though!

We have had no problems with this harness, he can't back out of it, and the collar part has snapped off (as it should) in a moment of panic, but he remained attached by the chest strap. I'm sure others will be along with more suggestions too. Good luck with your search!

By the way, you can see from those photos of Kenny how much he loves to turn his back to the camera when I'm trying to take photos of him!

I've got one for a terrier, it just about fits Quiff and its nice and padded but those vest style harnesses do look rather more comfy... we started off in a cat size harness but it was very quickly outgrown and it didn't have any padding.

Thanks so much for the helpful replies. I'm going to investigate the cat jackets. Had no idea these exsisted and I'm sure Kitten would be at home in one of these. I'll post a photo of him wearing one in due course xx

When I have got a second pair of hands around to help measure cat up I will be sending away for a Mynwood cat harness they look brilliant, just send neck a round middle of body sounds easy enough but........!!!!!!
Now where is the tape measure this time ?????? Just look for the silver tip,got to be around here somewhere...Was easy to find last night Welly was wrapped up in it & he wasn't even the one I wanted to measure.

I know the measuring problem - especially as the tape measure is one of Kenny's favourite toys - definitely a two person job!
