7lb at 5 months is a reasonable weight. Don't try to overfeed or you could end up with a fat kitten, not a large one. Let him eat what he wants when he wants and maybe vary the wet food you are giving. Does he clear the bowl of wet or does he leave any? If the former, give him a little more or feed him three times a day instead of two. if the latter, cut back a bit, there's no need to waste food. Cats are very good at regulating their own diet. Make sure he has plenty of exercise to build muscle and monitor him on a bi-weekly basis. You should see a steady increase.
