Coonies prefer to drink from moving water, We have water fountains for all of ours and the only time they dunk now is if I forget to switch it back on after cleaning it. Mopping up the water is certainly a good reminder to switch the fountain back on lol.

Oh yes! Pina does this too! She laps the water from her bowl but she is notorious for wanting to try what we have so she will dunk her paw in our glass when we aren't looking Lol. We call it "Dip, lick, repeat" She also scoops her food out of her bowl with her paw onto the floor then eat it...I guess it tastes better when it's on the floor. She also like to drink from the faucet. I turn it on while I'm working in the kitchen and she will sit on the edge of the sink an lean over and drink. I think I'm going to get her a fountain

2 of our 3 scratch around the bowl, dunk paws, flick water all over the place while lapping - it's so funny. Also drag the food bowls to them and eat with their paws while lying down. Very lazy Moonlight loves to pull over glasses - usually when they're full with sticky Coke - she seems to think it's funny. Gotta love em!

HI, have you tried the road refresher water bowls on ebay for about £11, they are virtually spill proof and allow the coonies to move the water for drinking but without soaking the floor. We use them all the time and they are brilliant for coonies drinking habits.

I bought the road refresher bowls and my lot had removed the lids and tipped them upside down within 2 days!! Am thinking of trying the heavy ceramic dog bowls as hopefully they won't have the strength to tip or drag them!

I've read that the digging/scratching at the water bowl goes back to their ancestors. In the wild they'd drink from standing pools of water & it was a way of cleaning any debris away that was floating on top. Our guy digs at his bowl which in turn spills all the water. He also loves drinking from the running faucet. He is obsessed with trying to drink from the toilet. He loves to watch when one flushes.
