Question about colour coding
Hi All,
My wife took our little girl "Amber Miracle" to her first show today and we were quite optimistic as she really is one of the most stunning girls we have ever produced.
Well she was disqualified as the judge said she was incorrectly registered. I had registered her as a Blue Tortie Tabby and the Judge said she is a "Black Tortie Silver Mackerel Tabby"
Now I understand the Silver part as I was a bit unsure of that myself, but I have looked everywhere and I cannot find a code number for the above mentioned "Black Tortie Silver Mackerel Tabby" Maine Coon.
In fact the only Blacks I can find are Solids, Smokes and Shaded, no Tabbies at all.
Can anyone advise me if such a colour code exists? (and what it is) as I am totally stumped now.
Btw, Ambers fur was unbelievably Blue when she was smaller and that's why I registered as a Blue Tortie.
The first photo is from back in Feb and the second 2 are from a few weeks ago.

Oh Mick she has grown into a stunner & those lynx tips are to die for,how sad that she was disqualified,I think there is a very fine line between a blue & a black silver & it is really hard to tell from photos,I have just been & looked at Ruby's mum who is a blue smoke & quite honestly looking at the photo I can't see any difference between her & Ruby who is classed as a black smoke tortie...
If I was filling in the GCCF form I think I would use the tortie silver mackerel tabby code & take it that it is recognised as being the black silver, hopefully someone who shows with them will pop up & either confirm or tell you different, you could always put a cover note in with her entry next time saying that's the only one you could find but if it is different would they ammend, although with the FB if you put in writing on the form that she was a black silver tortie mackerel tabby & your number didn't correspond they would contact you ask you to verify which it should be & then sort it for you. Can you have a colour assessment done at the start of the next show so you know she is in the right colour class.
Good luck for next time she sure looks a winner...xxx

Thanks Jackie, I really appreciate your feedback.
It wasn't just Amber that was disqualified, there were 2 others as well. One of the others was a Cream, but the Judge said it was a Cream Silver but told the owner not to re-register it as a judge at another show might say it's just a Cream and disqualify it again!! what the heck are you supposed to do?
I'm just going to re-register Amber as a Silver Tortie Mackerel Tabby
To be honest, I think we are done with the GCCF shows now anyway, they are so money orientated and we always feel really uncomfortable about having to leave the hall while they do their judging.
It's TICA shows from now on. We've been told they are much more friendly, and you don't have to leave your cats unattended.
Thanks again,
Mick

Blimey that was a bad day......
We gave up on GCCF a long while ago, when we first started showing Merlyn there were only a few judges opened minded because he was a mackerel pattern, they weren't really recognised then like they are now which is brilliant, plus he hated being got out of cages by strangers & we also hated leaving him,was going to give up showing altogether when friends said try showing him with Felis Britannica, did do TICA once but that was too busy for him although the judges got him out of the pens ok {will try it one day with Ruby though as it is great fun} but FB was right down his street, laid back & again unless he reached Best in Show line up was always handled by me & we were with him all day.
I do know some are difficult to say what colour they are,I have a friend who has one that they say the front is one colour & the back end another......she has had him colour assesed no end of times but he is plodding through at the colour she originally registered him under, all good fun, good luck with the TICA & may meet you & Amber Miracle one day....xxx
