Hi Ben,like all animals you do get the odd rogue one in any breed but on the whole MC's are very laid back,easy going & the more you put in the more you get back from them in bucketfulls,they are very people orintated cats but also get on with other cats or dogs..... If you are over here go onto the Maine Coon club UK site as there is a breeders list there which could give you some ideas, if you then go onto any of those breeders sites they very often then have links to their breeder friends,as I said any doubts chuck names into the pot on here & see if anybody has bought from the breeder/s you might be interested in,I was lucky when I first had MC's as there wasn't too many & it wasn't the minefield it is now,also thought later you want to know that parents are at least HCM tested too......x
