    Maine Coon "Chattering"

    Hello!!

My beautiful Maine Coon is a year old. She is a moody teenager and a grumpy gus. She definitely prefers me to all of the other family members. My question....she likes to make clicking and chattering noises at me. She does this every time I unload or load the dishwasher. It is the most bizarre thing!! I know they will do this to birds, etc. but I just don't know what she is trying to tell me! Anyone else have a cat that chatters at them???? Thanks!

Rufus chatters at me!! Not really sure why and doesn't seem to be at a particular time or anything! He is generally very vocal, always has something to say, especially when telling us off for being out... Or asleep!! I've never thought any more of it really but if anyone has any idea what it actually means I would be interested to find out!

I've always associated the chattering with a MC's excitement at the time and it's kind of a mental tick hard wired into the Cat. I often play a game of hide and seek with Freddy and often when I poke my head from behind the sofa or doorway he will lay there and eventually start chattering while running after me.

Maybe your Cat has associated you loading the dishwasher with something, as do you often feed them while loading or unloading? This may be the answer as they are related a sound or action with something that excites them like arriving home from not seeing them all day.
The same goes when you see them in the garden doing it while looking at birds. It's the excitement seeing the bird and knowing the reward they can only get there paws on it!
