While waiting for them to come home, we ended up with a list of 5000 names (OK, that might be a slight exaggeration). I checked with our daughters to be sure none of our future grandsons names were on our kitty name list and a few were eliminated. We had such a difficult time narrowing down the list and did not decide on names until they had been home for 2 weeks! Oscar and Felix fit this Odd Couple but Oscar as a name was out as even after 6 months without Oscar, we still were still mourning his absence. After much pressure from friends and family, my husband texted me one day and said he wanted "Buzz". I was nervous to leave another name for him to choose so I texted back... OK, the other will be Baxter. No rhyme - no reason.
KimAz I am going to take a stab in the dark here and say you like films !! lol Oh and by the way Bogey and Bacall you are definately in my age range !!! lol Have to say you were brave in my book, two weeks home before a definate name and lets face it 5000 to pick from I suppose two weeks was a record !! lol Oscar and Felix aw, was it the film or tv programme that suited them best ? Jack Lemmon as I recall in the film ! Love the names though and thats part of giving them names bringing them into the family and letting them be individuals and living up to their nom de plums ! Sorry to hear about Oscar x So does Buzz live up to his name ? You dont want to know what I envizage a cat called Buzz to be up to !!! lol However a sensible Baxter should keep him in tow !! love that name to.

Thanks for taking time to post, and sharing with me I appreciate it so much.

Both of my two took about a week to name after first visiting them at the breeders @9weeks old ish.

Ill start with the main man full title Mr Marshall Bravestarr (show name anamcaramaine Bravestarr) he is named after an old cartoon character. I decided I wanted to make use of the fact that he is a Maine coon and has the big M on his forehead and threw a few ideas about, I wanted something quirky to! At the time we had a guitar and amp and Marshall kept coming back to us until we remembered the old cartoon and the whole thing together just sounded too awesome.

Next we have Zelda my newest arrival. She totally lives up to her princess name! When I first went to see her she was so dainty and impish and I had already referred to her as a little princess I looked about and tossed a few names about that related to princess' I like/ from childhood. After a few hours I knew Zelda would be perfect for her and the breeders loved the name choice straight away.

So yeah quirky 80s related names float my boat!

Well originally Chiyo was going to be Kiyoshi. I have two hamsters who are called Katara and Toph (don't worry Chiyo will not be allowed into their room unless supervised) after characters from Avatar the Last Airbender (not the more the cartoon its AMAZING) and i wanted to keep the themed names but after meeting her Kiyoshi just didn't feel right. So i am an massive fan of Japanese anime, music, culture etc. so i started going through some names and came across one of the meanings of Chiyo being "thousand sparkles" and it just clicked i looked at a picture of her i had taken and it all just fell into place it was the perfect name!
