Did you find it easy or were there sleepless nights, tossing and turning wondering what to call your baby !

I had a cat once that just never answered to his name at all, well he was my daughters cat actually and she called him Advo ! yeah yeah I know what your thinking but she was younger and not of legal drinking age and was only allowed and Advocat at new year !! Children eh !!! lol

So come on all you cat owners you can tell me !! I promise I wont breath a word to anyone !!! lol

we're all potty cat people here! ;-)

OK Neevie, was a bit of a mistake - when we saw the ad for Maine Coon babies just born there was a picture of a grey torty (I remember it said she was very affectionate and she liked to make a lot of kisses) - the picture looked like a nearly white piece of fluff - so we thought "oh she's white, what sounds like snow? may be in a foreign language? mmm Nieve in Spanish?.... I always liked the Irish name Niamph which is pronounced Neeve... between Nieve and Niamph... Neeve"
Then we went to see her .... she wasn't white, or grey, she was quite dark actually, but never mind she was already ours, and she was already Neeve - or Neevie. Turns out the cat on the picture was her brother (we wanted a girl)
At first, she responded very well to her name - we just had to call her she would come for a cuddle - now she makes it a point to NOT be there if we call her. (unless I have food in my hand then all bets are off)
What about you and Dylan? (Teddy is a bit obvious... he looks like one... )

We had a similar experience as Alekto did. We saw the picture of our MC boy. He had the markings of a Siberian Husky dog. So we decided upon calling him "Husky". DH loved the idea of his name being Husky but calling him "Ski" for short. When we went to see him for the 1st time, we were handed our boy. He didn't look anything like his picture as the picture was of his sister. Well DH didn't want to give up calling him "Ski". I didn't think he looked like a Husky and didn't want to call him that even though MCs are huge. For a few weeks, sleepless nights, & arguments we struggled with a name searching websites, baby name books, etc. About 3 days before picking him up I suggested "Whiskey". This way DH could still call him "Ski" for short. DH didn't like the name but couldn't think of anything better. Whiskey just turned 2 and DH has never called him "Ski". Whiskey does know his name as he'll look at you with cattitude when you call him and will come if he feels like it.

P.S.: Whiskey does live up to his name as his antics drive us to drink

I always think the naming of a new furry is as exciting as bringing the babe home but sometimes the easy names are the way to go but here are mine:-
China Blue...already named before we had her as she was a retired mummy homed with us.
Having got the MC bug was waiting for my friend to breed a black silver mackerel with white which would have my name on it a few classic patterns came along but not my special so while waiting...
{Robert The} Bruce a red & white took hold of my heart when i saw his photo,he was named after a friend who is a massive 6' 4 with red hair, what other name could there be...
Year later his brown tortie flat chested sister joined us already named Pansy,it suited her & still does....
Joy of joys a few years wait but our wondefrul boy put in an appearance, always wanted a boy called Merlin so that was it & it was just magical that he was here but as he was going to be shown thought I would play with his name & he became Magicol {after son in law Colin} & Merlyn {after daughter...} my dream boy Magicol Merlyn was here family complete.....or was it,of course not so here we go again, when Merl got towards the top in his show career decided we would like just one more to carry on showing with so told breeder friend the next possible show babe we would have no matter what colour & along came a brown tabby without white,oh boy that was hard, didn't like browns & without white nearly a no goer but [oh what a mistake that would have been] ok how do we name him liked Simba but there are a lot of cats out there with that name so googled Shimba, came up with Shimba Hills & they have a herd of rare sable antelopes & the coats of the females are a dark brown so instead of hills we have a {Mara} Shimba but when we first went to see Shimba his bruv Boots said he wanted to come with us too, that was easy Wellynton Boots, now that was it fun over.........until we lost dear China, devestated & how I missed the busy busy ways of a girl, poor Pansy also was lost with no female company so when I went to see friends litter & little chubby smoke girl with a red spot on her head sat & looked at me I just said if I was having another one it would be her & her name would be Ruby as it was our ruby wedding anniversary,Ruby became our present from that friend & blue was added in memory of our first MC so our latest member is Ruby Blue,I have since lost my wonderful boy M Merlyn so who knows, watch this space & never say never,I just might be needing another name one day.......

When I saw the first picture of my MC, my first thought was lOOk, she is a Ginger! The only other name I struggled with was
Lady Marmalade. When I saw her in person for the first time, I knew she was a Ginger. She is beautiful and spoiled like Ginger on "The Gilligan's Isle" tv show, hope that does not age me too much haha

I had an easier time naming my daughters than we did these boys!!! My favorite names had already been used througout the years on much loved furry family members. (Maggie May, Bojangles (Bojo), Humphrey, Oscar etc.) When we thought we might want a brother and sister, we tentatively decided on Bogey and Bacall. However, we ended up requesting two brothers. While waiting for them to come home, we ended up with a list of 5000 names (OK, that might be a slight exaggeration). I checked with our daughters to be sure none of our future grandsons names were on our kitty name list and a few were eliminated. We had such a difficult time narrowing down the list and did not decide on names until they had been home for 2 weeks! Oscar and Felix fit this Odd Couple but Oscar as a name was out as even after 6 months without Oscar, we still were still mourning his absence. After much pressure from friends and family, my husband texted me one day and said he wanted "Buzz". I was nervous to leave another name for him to choose so I texted back... OK, the other will be Baxter. No rhyme - no reason.

Oh Alekto that is a wonderful story ! I love the name Neeve and it doesnt matter that she isnt the white baby you thought you were getting. I would love to have seen the look on your face ! lol So what you are saying now is no food no cuddle !!! lol oh that seems a bit harsh ! What you done to her !! lmao Brilliant I love it.

You are right Teddys full name is Teddy Bear cos he just looked like a teddy bear !! He only gets his full name if he is in the bad books, which isnt often I have to say ! Dylan just looks like a Dylan you know from the magic roundabout, please tell me you are old enough to remember that ! lol

Thanks for taking time to post I reallly appreciate it and its so nice to know these things x

LOL I love the name Whiskey ! So another one whos picture of their MC didnt match up ! I can imagine the arguments but you did settle it really well, even although Ski has never been used. Also using your cat to cover up your occasional drink is quite reprehensible CatsMom shame on you !!! lol Might use that excuse when I get Dylan !! lol

Thanks for replying I really appreciate it and am getting to know you all a bit better now x

jekkerrison what can I say, you definately put the thought in there, thats for sure, loving (Robert the) Bruce, and totallly agree what other name could there be with a friend as tall as that you need to keep on their good side, well done ! lol I love the name Pansy it just envokes a pretty, elegant girl.......dont tell me she isnt !! lol Magicol is wonderful and I am sure your daughter and son in law appreciated it, I am sorry to hear he has passed. Shimba well I have learned something new today I did not and shall remember now Shimba hills and antelopes, just amazing ! Love Wellynton Boots that is unusual but can see the logical progression from Boots. Sorry to hear about China what a lovely name. And what wonderful friends to give you Ruby Blue, bet you were thrilled to bits.

Thanks for posting I just really am loving all these stories, and I am sure you have not stopped adding to your MC family, omg I bet I end up like you..........................no I must not think these things !!!! lol Thought I would only ever have one horse.............that went out the window years ago !!! lol
