'Forgot, white light'nen' the fresh clear distilled liqour is 160 proof, when it goes into the barrel it must be 125 proof, if I don't misremember me' then before bottlling it is cut to 80 - 95 proof, possibly higher but most is sold in that range.

Yep, it's moonshine, but the distillery does it legal. In fact one sure sign there's a illegal still in the wood is the whiskey mold that grows anywhere it is being distilled. That's how the 'Revenuers' usta catch those good ol' boys up in the hollow.
