Found some 'used' guitar tuning keys for the CigarBoxGuitar. Wife got some vegetables and the gran looked for the 'Warrior' books, fantasy about cats doncha no. She couldn't find any so 'Pahpa' (that's me) hadda buy them for her at the book store for a premium price, not counting the price of fuel to get there.

But that is what a loving son does, and I am sure Gran appreciated it ! lol Did you make that CigarBoxGuitar yourself ? I have never seen anything like that before ?

Yes, I am making it. It's not quite done yet. The two bolts in the photo need to be cut to length, one is the head nut the other the bridge. Also the box is not glued up and the neck needs to be glued on. I just cobbled it together so I could check the fit and test the tuning against the placement of the bridge.

Old blues musicians, share croppers and such, couldn't afford a guitar so they'd make one of materials they had to hand. Most only have three or four strings and no frets. They are often played with a bottle neck slide. I used a cabinet hinge for a bridge nut to make it somewhat from materials at hand. I also need to make/insert place markers on the fret/fingerboard to make playing easier.

Wow, well that is brilliant, seriously. So how do you expect it to sound once it is made, or is that in the lap of the gods ?

How it sounds is in the fickle shackles of (mis)fortune. So much depends on the quality of the wood (be 'real' it's a cigar box!) and other materials used. But in reality you wouldn't want it to sound too good, that's part of its charm. Having said...I have heard truly good musicians make them sing and it doesn't take much to electrify it and make it holler. And no, I am not a truly good musician should you be pondering asking, mediocre at best.

Oh I think you are hiding you light under the proverbial bushel !!! lol Oh if you electrified it that would amplify it wouldnt it, it could sound really good, and I am sure you will make it sound wonderful. Do you sing to or are you just all about the music ?

waw that's original! once it's finished, you'll have to post a recording of how it plays ;-)

It is absolutely beautiful outside today! 80 degree and sunny, I got more flowers planted and mowed the entire lawn. I even started up my neighbors mower for her! Now off to the market, life is good!
