In Terms of size they are a medium size cat, mine are bigger than most because I have searched for blood lines to put with mine and through selective breeding I have kept the size... and the bone that belongs to the Abyssinian cat.
The Fashion now is a much longer sleeker cat... and not what I, or many long term breeders of this breed want.. In terms of Character, they are one of the most intelligent and willful of breeds... if an Abyssinian grew to the size of a Mainecoon you would have no house left..
It takes them until they are about 3 years old before they calm down a little, and that still means they can run rings around most breeds of cats.
The word no is not in their vocabulary they listen, they understand and they they just give you the finger!! lol
I have attached some photos for you to compare.
The mixed photo of kitties is Mainecoon s born 29th May British born 29th May Abyssinians born 5th June.
There is one photo of my daughter holding 3 - 11 week old Sorrel females and these girls were smaller that the 3 brothers in the same nest.
And the Usual brothers... all in the same basket squashing a British... lol
Once you are owned by an Aby they own you for life!! but you have to have lots and lots of patience..
