Shimba found it all too much at the FIFE show yesterday,he got his certificate,Best in Variety & was nominated for Best in Show in his catagory but lost out to another super looking cat, very proud of him but all a bit tiring, especially when members of the public keep coming to see you......

Who could resist saying hello to such a handsome chap outside of his pen? I know I couldn't!

Congrats to you and Shimba. I'm very encouraged by how knackered he is - perhaps this could offer a respite from the lunatic creature I call Freyja... knacker her out in Edenbridge next month and have a whole evening where I don't have to glue things to the coffee table!

Does he enjoy being showed? I can imagine it could be a bit waring being fussed all day when you'd normally be asleep.

Awww bless him! And many congrats to you and Shimba!

Coincidentally(?) there was also a FIFE show last Sunday near where I live in Holland. The breeders of Tatja and Minnie were there showing Minnie's mum. Also, two of Tatja's litter brothers were there with their respective owners. Of course we popped in to greet them and see how they did. Unfortunately no big prizes for them this time, although one of Tatja's bros came very close... he's growing into the biggest fluffiest blue tabby I've ever seen... with Tatja's sweet-looking face on him!

    What showing does to you

Hi Karen,on the whole he loves the shows, just gets a bit grumpy if he makes it to the Best in Show panel but after being tipped out of bed at 4.30am & at 5pm you are expected to look your best I suppose it is easy to let the smile slip. Will be interesting to see how Freyja takes to it,not long now.
Hi Candes, with FB you stay with your cats all the while & you present your own cat for judging, the only time anyone else holds them is if they get through to BIS then a steward takes over, because of that I found I used to have my cats out on my lap more waiting to go up or when they came back we would always have an extra cuddle & thats when people would walk past & stop to talk to you about them, brave ones would ask if they could touch them & all of mine have cottoned on that life on the outside of the bars is a lot more rewarding than being shut up & as you can see it can be a very relaxing day,for cat & owner.Best in Variety is hard to explain but basically when all the cats in each group have been judged in their respective classes if there is three or more they can then be grouped together to judged for an overall BIV,entire & neuters are done seperate but kittens & juniors can be put together, because of the number of cats needed to make up enough groups under each respective judge it very often doesn't happen & because it is now recognised how difficult it can be to get them there is a special award if your cat gets ten of them.If you go onto the Felis Britanica site,go into clubs & look up the Aristocats site it is explained a lot better along with how the show is basically run.We love going for the social side of things, made lots of new friends up & down the whole country, just wish I was brave enough to get them pet passported then I might have been able to go over to Holland & meet up with Antonia, great to think they were doing the same over there on Sunday.

Hi Candes, hope you have had more time to enjoy your cuddles with Teddy Bearz, they do make you go weak don't they, all of mine have their individual cuddle time during the day & none of them will infringe on it but the rest of the time it is free for all & you can sit there with one hanging round your neck ,one on the lap & a couple either side, can make things a bit warm but wouldn't be without it.
We are off to another show next month, only taking Wellynton Boots,he is not such a good show cat as his brother but he is a lot easier to handle & he also loves to show off to people. Hoping to be able to track down Freyja & her faithful servant, will be great to meet up with someone on the forum.

Freyja's looking forward to meeting Welly and said me and you can tag along if we behave ourselves. If I keep out of trouble, she'll let me come out and play, but I'm pretty sure I can give her the slip! My entry form's gone off now, so I just need to hook up with Sam for my bath lesson and we're good to go!

Ok Karen, get Freyja settled & I will instruct hubby....to do the same with Welly & we will meet in the cafe.Just trying to think what the caf is like there & I can't remember so might be one where it is better to take a picnic.Good luck with the bathing, I am sure Sam will get you both sorted. It is her "products" that Shimba is lying on outside the pen,I had just bought the bed to go into the bottom of his carrier & just put it on the table & when he came out of his pen he brought cat nip mouse with him & that was it,pillow provided !

Go Karen and Freyja! Very interested to hear how you get on. I'm thinking of taking the plunge myself with Monty...
